New into the world of Astons and have recently pursched a 2012 V8 Vanatge.

They say you should test everything when buying a car (test drive, looking around, trying electrics, aircon etc)

Thought I had done everything but have stumbled across a major problem......

The cup holders are to small!!

Big coffee drinkers in our house and we have standard travel coffee cups (keep the coffee hot etc) they just dont fit (even my 4c's were big enough....and Italians like espresso!!)

My wife loves the car..... yet to tell her when we go on trips it's a no to coffee on the go with our own brew or we have to stop of and slum it with starbucks. Either way it's a conversation I wish to avoid. It wont end well.

Amazon is not throwing up any decent standard coffee mugs with smaller bottoms.

Any suggestions (add onto the cureent holders/products you know fit /alternative coffe cups)

This is worse than finding a warning light on the dash or breaking down 😉

It's what all the cool kids sip from.

The problem is that even when you find one that fits, the position of it means that your elbow hits it. The only solution I found was to use aftermarket cup holders that clip onto the side air vents. At least I did in my 2006 V8V but in my 2016 I haven't bothered.

Pretty as it is, the little rotating alloy ‘cup holder’ thingy was never any use as a cup holder, as even if one found a cup to fit, and avoided knocking over said cup with elbows, any ‘spirited’ driving could easily send the thing and its contents flying fore or aft.

If im travelling alone its fine as my coffee mug fits between right hand side of the passenger seat bolster and centre console. With a passenger its more tricky as there really is nowhere for them to put their coffee mug except in their hand.

Time perhaps to design and market a range of ludicrously expensive 'Aston Martin' coffee cups!

I don't think I've ever tried to drink coffee in my DB9 but there's a decent flat bit in the middle. Oh yes and I use a Thermos flask.

Now that’s a real “First World Issue!” Never saw the attraction of having a cup of coffee always available while out for a drive as prefer to enjoy the drive and if I/we need a coffee find a nice place to stop have a coffee and enjoy the view towards the car smile

Can’t post a picture yet but Nespresso Touch Nomad Travel mug fits perfectly, it tapers from top to bottom so smaller bottom which is why it fits. I just went and tested as hadn’t even thought about that. It’s 345ml (11 Oz) size so not the biggest but not tiny either, a medium size from Starbucks /Costa / Nero will fit inside. They are stainless steel and double walled with vacuum so drink stays hot for long enough time. You can generally pick them up from eBay at a reasonable price as people get them as a free gift from time to time with their coffee order. They are £22 each direct from Nespresso with my membership level discount (max discount) so use that as a price guide.

If I ever heard about a luxury problem...

a Sigg Kids Water Bottle 0.3l with 66mm diameter fits nicely in my 2007 V8V.

Afraid its not for hot drinks, though.

On a more serious note - if that's all which stands between you and a happy Aston life, just get the center console modified...

Again thank you for all your replys.

The post was rather tongue in cheek in that some posts can be a bit doom and gloom when owners have issues and thought it would be a fun way of asking..... does anyone have recommendations for a cofee cup that fits.

Just purchased the Nespresso Nomad as that ticks all the boxes. So thank you for that recommendation.

Yes we are coffee snobs, its very tricky to find good coffee and so our own is 'just right '

Very pleased and lucky to own a car like the Vanatge. Even more blessed that all I have to worry about in life right now is finding a coffee cup that fits. I know that will change but I'll take that and enjoy that for as long as possible.

Loving his section of piston heads.

Happy motoring and the Sigg Lighting McQueen bottle is next on the list.

Thanks all

Do you have a manual or a flappy paddle? If the latter, there is a company that 3D prints a cupholder for the alcove where gear stick has been removed from (I will need to dig out details).

Welcome to the AM world Paul.
Expect you have noticed how much of an improvement a V8V is, from your Triumph Herald. Not such a good turning circle though.

You are quite right to raise the problem, of how to stop coffee sloshing all over the wonderful Bridge of Weir leather interior.
I have now had to give up carrying coffee. It became impossible to even keep the container secure in the holder.

wink

Enjoy you car. We do like photos, if you would like to post some.

You beat me to it. Although I only saw the rougher and slightly more basic ones on eBay, so thanks for the link.

I love a coffee on the go but the Aston is beautiful so there’s little I wouldn’t put up with.

Welcome to the family. I currently have a 2012 V8V S. enjoy it 😎

I found the solution is to ban the consumption of all food and drinks because it's an Aston don't ya know.
