Some advice please; should the tailgate rise automatically on the struts when the boot is popped or do they just keep it in the open position?

Many thanks.

Mine just pops open a few mm and I have to open and close it manually. When closing it, it does soft close the last few mm.

When tailgate is in the open position the struts should hold it.

If yours is similar I believe it's completely normal operation.

I don't think any came with automatic lifters.

I’ve owned my Vantage Roadster for ten years and that opens as you describe as well. I was in it the other day with a mate and he convinced me the struts were passed it so I was thinking of ordering some new ones. I took one off and it still had loads of resistance so I’m thinking that’s how it should be. It holds the lid up when fully open but only lifts enough on the button release to get your fingers under. This may be because we get used to modern tailgates opening fully when the button is pressed. I’m interested to know how a new one should be as well

Many thaks Skybear and sf1969 - yup - just pops a few mm but does stay open once lifted.

I'll cross that particular job off my list as unnecessary.

Absolutely, what you describe is correct operation.
