I recently purchased a volante 2006. In the trunk I have the long/ large amp - level 3 amp, but it is clear the wires had been altered at some point as there were crimped repairs on the majority of the wires. As I started to investigate and look around the car I found that there was no sub between in the rear seats and behind the speaker screen. I could not see a Sub anywhere else in the car.

Is my sub just missing, or is it located somewhere else? (the sound from the stereo sounds like the sub is missing!)

Is there a separate amp or does it all come from the large single amp?

There are holes in the trunk bulkhead panel for speakers- is this normal?

Any pictures of this area would be appreciated.

If you mean you have the Linn 950W (the top level audio system at the time) then there should definitely be a large sub behind the grille (between the two rear seats) and there are no speakers in the boot, have you a picture of what you mean by speaker holes in the boot bulkhead?

It’s pretty clear there’s been a poor attempt at an upgrade here.
I’ve also found the sub is missing from between the seats. I cannot see any sub fixation points. Did the 2006 have a plastic box or did the sub mount to a bracket? Either way I’d like to return the sub back to its original location. Just need to know how it mounts and what I’m missing.

Any advice would be appreciated.

That does look like a bit of a bodge - I would normally only expect to see that sort of mod on a 10-year-old hot hatch parcel shelf

I don't know if these pages will help - they show the parts catalogue extracts from Scuderia Parts for the DB9 Volante (2004 - 2012), depending which system you have

With the 950W, Level 3, do I need the 8 or 10 sub enclosure? I was leaning towards the 8 and plan to upgrade the sub from standard.

I replaced the OEM sub with a Soundstream sub and the difference was awesome. I sold my OEM sub for double what the new Soundstream cost so win win win.
Your photo seems to show a GPS tracker antenna stuck down which i have mounted under the Volante hood trim.
Without the 'box' the sub goes into, you are a little stuck, but there are numerous specialist out there who could make up an MDF cabinet to house the sub, sounding FAR better and cheaper than the poor OEM unit.
You could safely mount it with velcro to the underside and back as its only a tiny 8" unit.
