Hey all, just quick one really as per title, what are the consensus on giving a friendly flash and a thumbs up to other AM owners when driving about? Is it a thing or am I making myself just look like a tit? I was sort of under assumption that the cars are fairly special so worth a friendly wave 🤣

Obviously I don't mean on a motorway hooning opposite way, but on the quieter a and b roads where one has a chance to spot the AM car?

I have a classic mini and had a subaru and fellow owners/ enthusiasts always tend to give a quick wave.

Yes, I always try to give a greeting to other owners.
A very rare occurrence though, which I suppose adds to the special feeling.

Fellow classic Mini owner here. The car is long retired from motorsport, but still holds a speed hillclimb class record.

I do it too, on the rare occasions I see a fellow owner driving from the opposite direction. 90% of the time, I get the same response.

I try to wave, sometimes I don't get an acknowledgement but I take that to mean they don't know what my car is.

I always try to acknowledge a fellow Aston Martin driver but for some strange reason they are quite rare where I live. A neighbour had a Cygnet (does that count?) for a few years but he recently sold it. I drove mine to The Wirral last month and I only saw one other Aston Martin in three days, in what was effectively a 500 mile round trip. Where are they all hiding?! smile

Ah thanks for all the responses and reassurances I have seen few about in my 3 month ownership and yesterday on a traffic light saw a db7 in a convoy with few other classic exotics. As it was at a traffic light I just got a puzzled look back hence prompted this post 🤣

I see quite few here but though I check just so I don't make Mt self look silly.

Thank you for the responses!

Ah nice I have an austin mini had it from 19 and just could not let it go. It went through various stages of life, from 998 to twin carbed Cooper s head to a whopping 1.8 vtec and now putting it back to its original former spec with few quality of life improvements with a hope of 2025 imm and using it as a track toy.

Hildreth is a little pic Aston and Austin 🤣

Yes when out and about in the countryside, not so much in busy city traffic or motorways obviously.

I ride a bike too, and similar to the "biker nod" of acknowledgment.

Its like saying good morning to people, you walk through a city on the way to work you cant possibly say hello to everyone you pass. When out in the countryside or you live in a village, everyone says hello.

Best one is the somewhat ambiguous BMW finger raise.

Always wondered if it was mere friendly acknowledgement or 'swivel on this'. biggrin:

When I owned a Vantage, the accepted gesture was to raise a gentlemanly finger off the steering wheel, whilst not letting your hand leave the wheel.

I.e a more refined acknowledgement compared to a wave.

However, now I think about it, it might be used to signify gently tapping your pipe out!

How is the restoration going Richard?

Am sure that you will post some pictures for us to see, when the work has been completed.

I have owned my DB11 for 14 months now. In all that time, I have seen only one single AM on any roads in my vicinity. In fact, I was at a stoplight and a Vantage went through in the cross direction.

With so few opportunities, I am not sure what I would do if I actually passed another AM.
