onyx
obsidian
tungsten

is onyx the metallic black and obsidian the 'matt' black. which one looks the daddy on the car?

any views on tungsten?

out of the three colours which would you go for?

is contrasting stitching do or die must have option?

is a bright finish grille a bit homo?

is platinum silver a good idea?

help!

Don't quote me but the plain black is I think "Jet" - Obsidian is a Mercedes colour and hence will be a £995 option.

Bright grill seems pointless to me.

Tungsten is grey silver

Platinum is IMHO a bit Passe.

Went to the factory on Monday, every car (of about 35) bar 2 were either, Black, "Grey" or Silver there was one red and one dark blue!

Contraxting stiching looks good with black leather less so with other colours

Does nobody want a green one?

I'm sure Pentland Green (very very dark green)would be superb on the V8.

Failing that, tungsten......otherwise that'll be 3 black Pistonheads V8s

ok, thanks for your replies.

sold the gt2 yesterday and am now feeling rather naked. an aston is going to be my next car, just had an invite to the launch of the amv8 at reading on the 4th october. found three amv8's cars available for delivery before the end of the year and one feb time.

you've confirmed my thoughts on stitching, platinum inserts and grille. still umming about colours, tungsten and black are the only colours in my opinion. the dealers all say black is the daddy.

my ideal spec therefore would be:

metallic black (obsidian this is i take it)
black leather interior
coarse silver stitching
alloy facia
anthracite interior fittings
satnav
powerfold mirrors
19" wheels
heated screen and seats
battery conditioner
tracker

don't think i've missed anything.

and i know just where to get this....

Also go for the Higher spec Hi-Fi. Apparently it's alot better than the Linn they put in the '9'.

Just been on the phone to Aston dealership and they say that the Mercedes Obsidian black and the Onyx black both are metallic with silver fleck.

I've gone for Onyx black with Obsidian black leather with silver stiching, tailors grey headlining,
standard grey calipers with the platinum interior bits to lift the cabin inside.

Full spec in regards to other options apart from the phone kit which wasn't bluetooth.

Picking up DB9 today

this is exactly my problem which i'm finding it hard to clarify.

i test drove an SL500 a few years ago. it was in black, but it was not metallic, it was just shiny, and it looked awefull... showed up everything.

that's the black i don't want. i want metallic black. the dealers have given me conflicting messages, i now have conflicting messages here...

I tell you what, im off to the Derby dealership now to pick up our DB9 and the guy says there is a DB9 in Onyx black there, i will have a look and report back to wether it is matt or metallic. Will report back in about an hour or so. If it however turns out to be a matt colour then i have ordered the wrong colour for my amv8!

Im not disagreeing with you it's just that ive too held the samples and seen what they look like, i could be very wrong! I'll let you know anyways.

I've just phoned Gaydon and they dug out my order form.

Alas it was filled out slightly wrong. Down as Obsidan Black exterior and interior. Should be...

ONXY Black exterior (metallic black)
Obsidian Interior (Charcole like black leather)

The flat black colour (no flec) is called JET BLACK

realllllllly sorry for confusing you (and me) there

is that different to onyx?

so in summary we have established:

onyx / onxy is metallic black. the super cool colour that is a must have acknowledged by dealers to be the daddy of colours for the amv8.

obsidian does not even exist for an exterior colour, only interior.

only a muppet would buy jet black.

Mine will be Almond Green, the closest standard colour they do today to the classic Aston Martin Racing Green. I got swayed by all those classic Aston Racers at the factory.

Must say the Black looks cool, the Top Gear DVD nearly made me change my choice...

I can confirm the Onyx black is metallic, but possibly not as metallic as the Obsidian but i don't know what that looks like so can't comment.

Just got back in the new DB9 Volante, had the valves removed from exhaust, sounds awesome! Just cruised back home from dealership with roof down. Well impressed!

911nutter,
I may be alone but I like the bright finish grill with the darker colors that you are considering, and I'm no "homo" (not that there is anything wrong with that). There is a thread a page back on this forum started by GaryHun which has pictures taken by Roo / VNK360S of an onyx black V8 with bright grill. Maybe looking at those will help you.
I will probably go with the standard interior fittings rather that the platinum.

errr....eddhick.... that's some profile. do you actually own all those cars?surely some are previously owned... unless you're a dealer?

nice photos too from garyhun on the amoc website. i had seen them before, but what's interesintg in about them is that that black looked quite matted. perhaps different in real life, and interesting point on the bright finish grille. i thought it would be much more chromed up. it looks ok. i take it the stitching in that is coarse.

the conclusion i'm coming too is that rather than torturing myself with trying to second guess what's what specwise / colourwise, i'll just wait until i go to reading for the launch and hopefully there'll be a couple of cars to compare.

Yea we currently own all of those and no we are not a car dealership, we just love cars!! We are currently trying to get rid of the Gallardo, the GT3, the Turbo S cab, the CL600 and we have just given up the Arnage T yesterday. To be replaced by a phantom which is coming on monday and the DB9 Volante we got today. Can prove with pictures if neccesary

You have a nice looking GT2 by the way! We are on our second one which is red but no stripes, but has the roll cage which is cool!

There was a tungsten/titanium (sorry not sure which) V8 on display at the Goodwood Revival yesterday. The interior was dark tan (kestel?). A brave interior choice but it did look stunning!

Guess that's pretty much the colours of the original concept car.
