Vantage Transaxle oil change interval
Discussion
AM used to list it as every 4 years on their site. But official service schedule on the web now says 'change at 40,000 miles.
Some specialists still say every 4 years.
What's the correct approach? Did mine 4 years ago but only about 2000 miles ago (the shame.....) so not sure it needs it this year really.

It was 4 years or 40k but when my car (ages ago) became 8 years old, my specialist said it's now every 40k. Presumably, the service centres who stick to the original recomendation do so for very obvious ££s reasons?
When I bought my DB9 it had only done 14K miles, so well short of needing new gearbox oil - you would think. But unknown to me when I paid the money, the torque converter was knackered. Why? Because the car was 14 years old and the Aston main dealer who had serviced it very year for 14 years had observed the 40K mile rule, not the 8 year one.The question is about a manual box (Vantage transaxle). Transmission oil isn’t subjected to the same heat, thermal cycling, acids and other products of combustion as engine oil. It does not need frequent change. I’ve personally been involved in advanced engineering analysis to successfully extend the oil life of very heavily loaded manual transmissions to 10 yrs, and with a minor additive pack, 20yrs or asset life is a reality.
Every 40-50k miles or up to 10yrs on an automotive manual transmission is fine - but I would far more frequently check the level, for leaks and the condition of seals, and see if any swarf on the magnetic drain plug. It’s a leak that will catch you and write off your transmission rather than the non-degrading oil. Trust the feel of your stick, for those of you who have one

So 8 years in an auto box but 10 in a manual? That's not much difference really. Gassing Station | Aston Martin | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
