ASM Pipes and Timeless Warranty
Discussion
Greetings
Vantage was serviced yesterday and technician found cracked ASM pipes, although car still has AM warranty until the end of this month dealer stated that they could only be replaced after they had started to leak. Now we all know that they do not leak fluid but explode whilst driving.
Has anyone managed to get the ASM pipes renewed under AM warranty with just cracking on pipes?.

Your cracked pipe is the pump suction line from the fluid reservoir. The good news is that this pipe is not under pressure and will not be exploding. The technician is correct that it will start weeping as the rubber rot continues. It does need replacing but you will not suffer anything too traumatic because of it.
Interesting. I had exactly this. When it was at HWM for a service, they said exactly that - they don't get replaced until they leak. They also said that they should last a while longer, so I wasn't concerned.
But I took it to AM Bristol for new tyres 6 months later, and they did a check over the car and said that they'd get the pipes sorted straight away under warranty. So it was done and they weren't technically leaking yet. (AM Bristol also spotted that one of the springs was nearly cracked and replaced the whole adaptive damper unit at the same time, also under warranty.)
So, likely true. You may want to get a second opinion from another dealer if you so wish.
However, if out of warranty, I'd get the pipes replaced by the DAE replacements, which are apparently of higher quality. I expect the replacement factory fit pipes on mine (replaced when the car was only 4.5 years old) will go again in around the same time.

I had exactly this on my V12S and for three years AM Bristol told me theyre very cracked but not leaking yet. Prior to me leaving the warranty system i got a full car inspection by David Appleby Engineering and obviously one of the things that was brought to light was the cracked ASM pipes, plus many other issues that were found. Armed with a very professional report i then went back to AM Bristol and handed them the report and the car and told them to push these failures through the warranty system. They didnt question anything, they did say to me that they would need to check the issues that DAE had raised and if they were under Warranty then they would fix them. They booked the car in for 2 weeks later and fixed everything. Obviouslt DAE knew what was a warranty fix and what was not.
Dont believe everything that the MD tells you and dont wait for st to break and leak before it gets fixed, they know it needs fixing, theyre just bumping you off with excuses not to do it.

Many thanks for the advice.
AM warranty expires later this month so if AM dealers are not prepared to take on potential serious failures to items on the car such as perished hoses it makes no sense in renewing the AM warranty as it only applies to when things fail and you get stranded at the roadside.
I have passed the images to another AM dealer and await the response, if it's the same reply that the hoses have not failed then I will be using an independent AM garage to sort the problem and future servicing at a loss to AM dealers but at less cost than renewing the AM warranty at £2,383 per year.
Many thanks for the advice.

I’d agree with that. I’m just weighing up the warranty renewal costs due in October. Last time I looked it was around £1,800 p/a but it’s jumped to the cost you quote now (and a small discount if you buy two years). Somehow, that increase has made me think again. I’d love to keep it officially covered as it’s paid for itself (and did with previous Vantages) but things like the upgraded DAE-supplied ASM pipes, any rattles, trim, etc. aren’t. The big ticket stuff like drivetrain are what makes to consider keeping it going. Yes - they are robust, but it’s not too hard to get a £40k bill if something really unfortunate happens. Many thanks for the advice.

We had an issue with water getting into one of the tail lights on MrsCaslad’s Range Rover and were greeted with the time honoured, ‘Oh, they all do that, Sir.’
After haranguing the service manager for 10 minutes about the inability of the supposed world leading 4x4 manufacturer to make a light which didn’t leak water when it rained he disappeared & came back with a copy of the warranty manual which had photos of rear lights with varying degrees of water ingress and directions as to which stage the warranty would allow for a replacement.
Suffice to say the warranty was not renewed & we no longer use the MD.

I had mine replaced by DAE pipes which are of higher quality. My warranty had already run out so I ordered them from DAE direct and had them fitted by my Aston dealer. There’s no risk of the pipe exploding but it can leave you stranded with the gearbox no longer working so I would sort this before any leaks appear.
Many thanks for the replies.
As an aside I wonder if the car had no existing warranty and required an AM inspection for a new warranty if the ASM pipes would need to be replaced before a new warranty was issued?
Maybe that is the question I will ask if the AM dealer declines to fix under the existing warranty.
