Infotainment issue v12v s
Discussion
Tried to go out in car yesterday ,when I start it up the screen lifts up and the AM logo appears and then It goes black .
Stuff works like the radio etc but no display and the haptic buttons now make a noise when pressed which they didn’t do before (not a healthy noise either to my ears)
Car is booked in at AM but not for a few weeks so any pointers appreciated .

Sounds almost certainly the firmware version. Earlier versions crash a lot, as does the very final version.Stuff works like the radio etc but no display and the haptic buttons now make a noise when pressed which they didn’t do before (not a healthy noise either to my ears)

Make sure you have the penultimate version detailed in my AMi III thread, i.e. 3.1.10/1.107

I didn’t ignore your advice I asked before collection but never got an answer and the giddiness on collection day made me forget to check .Make sure you have the penultimate version detailed in my AMi III thread, i.e. 3.1.10/1.107

No worries - which version do you have now? If it isnt the one above then a quick teip back will resolve it, but do tell them you are coming. It seems they may have to request the specific version above that is the best and most stable one - assuming of course you don’t already have that. It’s not software related ,they said it wouldn’t be before I dropped it off as they have serviced car from new and never had an issue .
It seems the wiring loom has failed ,and neither they or aston currently have any stock .(I could say the joys of aston ownership but I had an identical issue with a brand new 997 turbo many years ago with no available wiring looms)

My 15 vanquish would do a similar thing, would light up then go black, radio would work if i shut off and turned back on it would sometimes work. It was a firmware upgrade problem.
I would get a second opinion or get a firmware upgrade done regardless of what the dealer says. They can be wrong sometimes you know and are often only focused on the bottom line.

This - Ive known dealers be wrong on such things. Absolutely 100% what the OP is describing fits exactly with what the firmware does. Just because the prior owner had not experienced such issues means nothing. The stablity can be down to the functionality used. For instance the built in nav can cause many of the lockups, but if you are using carplay then you wouldnt see that. Likewise carplay can cause some other issues, that if you were not using it you would not see. Its very much dependent upon the functionality so the dealers assumption here is incorrect.I would get a second opinion or get a firmware upgrade done regardless of what the dealer says. OP - please check your firmware version against my posts above. if it is not on "3.1.10/1.107" then I would strongly suggest you get it upgraded. It is free to do and takes less than 5mins as it may well fix your problem without all the hassle of and wait for a new loom.
If it doesn't then you have lost nothing and you are in a better place anyway as ALL other firmware versions other than the one I have posted are very unstable. Even the correct version blips once in a while, but it is by an order of magnitude more stable than all others.

Ahh - It doesnt work at all ever even if the car is left for several hours and then started without carplay or any other devices connected? Ensure you remove all connected devices to take them out of the equation. Note also that the car has to be left off for at least 20mins for the system to fully powerdown and go through the full start up sequence at engine start.
If the screen still doesnt work Im fairly sure connecting the car to the AM computer would tell them the version installed.
You could just get them to flash it to the version suggested regardless, the screen isnt necessary to do the upgrade. A memory stick with the firmware on is put into the primary usb slot and the car started. The flash is an automatic process once that is done.
If the problem remains then fair enough it is then likely a hardware fault. But if the loom is out of stock anyway then youve got nothing to lose by trying surely?
AMi III was never fitted to many cars by virtue of its late introduction to the range, so there is a general lack of knowledge in dealership service engineers and to be fair at the factory too these days and many involved have since moved on. But if you explicitly ask for the version above they can retrieve it and install it easily enough to test the theory.

At first the AM logo flashed up then went dead ,now it doesn’t even do that .
The screen is absolutely dead and the dealer is a 3-4 hour round trip for me so I can’t just pop in to them .
I do not connect anything but if I do the car play works in the sense I can play music from the phone but the screen is lifeless .

After chasing for a few weeks I have been told the loom will be available early January .
I have used the car. Maybe 6 times and whilst it is driveable It is quite a significant issue for me , I’m not happy at all .
Assurances that they were having similar problems with other customers and supply of parts is really of no help to me .

They MAY have a loom in stock.
My Vantage MY 16 has been playing up for a while- i phone plugged into charger:
Screen shows searching for media devices and goes black quite a bit. Maybe gets one or two songs once it finds phone. Been happening since end of last year but haven’t driven much until recently. Also a pain as delays reversing camera a lot
Last week was rubbish until Dover ferry and was then faultless I. France and Belgium for Spa 7 hour and drove at least two or three times everyday bar yesterday/race day.
So now the car loves Europe - back in UK lasted 20 mins or so from Dover to M20 or so and then loses media connection and goes black etc - it now has a new trick as digital speed goes to KM as does trip info and fuel range - major PIA when driving through towns after 4 hours or so driving.
Anything more recent on issue - looks like impact of some UK broadcasting or transmission issue to me - surely the iPhone issue would the same in Europe!

The loom was replaced and resolved the issue , although yesterday the car play decided not to work .If there was an issue you suggested in the last paragraph I would assume it can’t be just you and all vantages would be affected .Screen shows searching for media devices and goes black quite a bit. Good luck electrical issues are a pain .
I thought there were quite a few 16 year issues all starting last couple of months of 2023, where as a loom with some moving part would be more based on wear and tear and so mileage based.
Working perfectly from firing up to leave ferry at Calais for 900 odd km with lots of short trips for groceries and round the old track bits there seems very odd as it’s been bad on every UK journey for last 3 plus months and failed again after 20 mins or so in UK?
Not my main issue at moment as runaround car has possible blown engine and next AM trip is Le Mans.

Just coincidence ? Maybe better roads to mean the loom getting disturbed less ? What have Aston said ? Mine is a 17 plate and they resolved it under warranty ,
Lots of Belgian roads near Spa were completely wrecked and also did a cobbled/pave backstreet as they are digging up roads there (as well as main road in Francorchamps).
At least 12 or 15 journeys in Belgium and France including campsite gravel and back road detour in Francorchamps that was like a rallycross stage! Plus it now switches to Km for digital display - great fun in a busy town centre with speed cameras after a 7 or 8 hour journey.
The 220mph dial is not great for judging speed in the 20 to 40mph range.
