Well, it’s funny how it goes.
You go through the process of saving whilst at the same time reading, reading, reading. Watching endless YouTube videos. Months (years) of scanning the market to see what’s out there. Go and see several. Pay for remedial work on garage.
And then suddenly a real prospect comes up and it all happens rather quickly.
Saw the car online on Saturday. Couple of calls to the dealer. Ohmygod, it’s Monday night and I’ve just driven 250 miles to an Ibis so I can view the car the next morning.
And now it’s Wednesday and I’m about to join the fold.
It’s a 2010 4.7 Vantage Roadster manual.
Treat me gently.
First questions first. Who are people using for insurance? This is going to be a second car (social/domestic, one or two trips to the continent pa) so I’ve no dedicated no claims bonus to apply.
I had a TVR V8S from 2006-2012 and used, IIRC, Footman James and then Hagerty for modern classic style policies. Is that still the sort of thing that people are using?

First the easy bit - congratulations and welcome.
Insurance is certainly a bit of mine field of late ( just look at the various threads on PH ) but usually the advice seems to be either look at the Meerkats or as suggested go to a Broker and let them do the work.
Add to Locktons , perhaps A Plan or Aston Lark along with the ones you mentioned or depending on other cars in the fleet and overall values , a more specialised broker such as Nowell and Richards.
Companies like NFU can also be decent.
As ever it’s that equation behind cost v service v claims service which you have to find a happy balance of.

Exciting times for you. That was me in 2011, buying a 2009 V8V manual. Every drive is still a wonderful occasion. Great works of art on wheels.
As for insurance, I began with Aviva through a broker, then NFU and (after their renewal premium trebled, for me and others on this forum) then Aviva Direct. Premiums obviously vary for circumstances, but now lower than any previous year. There is talk about big increases this year, so fingers crossed. I don't do many miles, so the insurer is on to a winner with me.
If you ever need a replacement clutch, consider twin plate. If you want more exhaust sound, then you may be lucky because your car might not have cats in the manifolds. A cheap modification then becomes possible. Think the change was in 2010.

If, like me, you are of a certain vintage you may want to try Saga ... (i'm only 55) but they were allowing 50+ years for insurance. Best prices I have had Fully comp with NCB protected and the wife on as named driver and she isn't close to 50 yet ... about £240 with annual mileage of 7000.

Do you want agreed value?
Do you want fully comp driving other vehicles?
Are you price driven or is coverage more critical?

NCB is not taken into account, not accrued and has the potential post 2 yrs to be not valid. Some will note it down and add to it, but critically not rate the quote on it
It includes driving other cars fully comp with unlimited value
Agreed value based on the invoice and market, but also has conditions should the vehicle value rise they will go up to 50% over that total should the worst happen
Zurich Private Clients will cover upto 5 cars iirc
Downsides:
Tracker required
Some may have garaging conditions, my previous one did when at home 10pm to 6am it needed to be away, my ZPC one does not now
Mileage can be funny most will do 6k per vehicle no problem, some 9k, ZPC have mine down at 11k per annum (hey I like driving it!)

Another option if you have a few cars and if you have more than one bit of tasty stuff, Footman James private clients. I have 5 cars inc 3 AM and a full fat Rangie, two motorbikes and a motorhome, unlimited miles, the Mrs on all, agreed value on all, Euro breakdown on all, 2k all fully comp. Can’t fault it other than the lack of NCB accrual.

Even 46 year old Chartered Accountants living in rural bliss and garaging their P&J aren’t immune from the current insurance squeeze it seems- was forewarned: like many the premium on my daily went up substantially this year.
Still, this is all good displacement activity. I’m trying not to behave like a giddy child, but it’s hard.

As is now being said in the financial services industry, perhaps Aston Martin owners do not align with NFU's 'values'.
They might want V8 and V12 engines banned, although big engine farm machinery (insured by NFU) is probably acceptable.
Observed - Primary 2023 protesting rule:- What thou protests about, must only apply to others, not to yourself.

I have several (non-automotive) policies with them and every year they ask if they can quote for my cars. Every year we have the same conversation where (due to positive comments on here) I suggest seeing what they can do on the Astons… they say they can’t without them having some history of insuring something much cheaper/slower/etc for me. Always ends up with the only car they’d quote on being my station car, which is a bit of an outlier in terms of renewal date and therefore too early to quote so just gets done via the comparison sites.
I have a Zurich policy on the Astons and one thing that is notable is that it still contains a driving other vehicles clause, with no value limitation, for both myself and MrsLT.

We are unlikely to ever know why.
A pathetic comment, about you having to gain experience first with low powered cars
Something has occurred that suddenly put them off Aston Martins and perhaps other high powered sports cars.
I insured with them for several years and each time the annual premium reduced due to their profit share rebate.
Then suddenly they offered a trebled premium.
I obviously realised that it was a coded message for me to clear off, so I did not even speak to them.
Cheeky timing, because the previous year they had banked an annual premium, the pandemic began and my mileage for that insurance year was only 200 miles. Virtually no risk for them at all.
Perhaps they did not insure very many Aston Martins, had a few expensive claims, therefore their 'insurable book' for those cars might have been insufficient to reflected the average risk.
Anyway I came away the winner, because Aviva provided the cover that I wanted for an even lower premium. My insurable risk must be lower than the average they expect, because annual mileage tends to be low.
I know, get out more.

jeez i got absolutely skinned for my first year of Aston ownership early this year, A1 quoted me £800. I was in such a last minute panic as was collecting the car next morning from 2+ hrs away that i reluctantly accepted as others i had been waiting for quotes for faffed about for 2 days. Its a very good 'platinum style' policy based on the documents so assume in safe hands but i wont be renewing at that price. My Cayman R was only £340 FC.
Anyone with Classicline? I used them for my classic 911 and the CR (before i sold it) but for some stupid reason forgot to enquire with them for the Vantage thinking it would be out of their remit.

For those advocating Admiral... this clause, still in the latest policy docs "We will repair your vehicle with parts of a similar standard and quality to the parts being replaced. The parts we use may not be produced or supplied by your vehicle’s manufacturer. They may also be recycled parts." along with this definition "Modifications Any changes to your vehicle’s standard specification, including accessories and additional parts, optional extras and aftermarket alterations, trade related changes and parts." (emphasis added) always caused me to think twice about using them.
I'm sure I've read accounts on PH of them getting funny at claim time because factory options were not disclosed when taking out the policy.

Yes, renewal time in 2 weeks, been competitive for me without the need for a tracker, I can get cheaper but having to fit a tracker wipes out any saving and more so.Anyone with Classicline? It’s interesting to me that it would seem that “middle aged man who had a sports car before he had kids/mortgage and is now rejoining that field with a weekend toy for SD&P” doesn’t seem to be catered for very well even though I’m sure there are lots of us out there.
It was considerably easier to get meaningful quotes on a thirteen year old TVR second car as a 29 year old in 2006 than it is on a 13 year old Vantage today, accepting that the likely repair costs should the worst happen differ but noting that I’m sure the stats would show the likelihood of such an event to have fallen massively (because I’m an old and fat man now, not an aspiring Schumacher).
