Hello all

I wish to try and update the Sat Nav map in my 2013 Vantage. I have only had the car a week or so, but have learned what the device is, where it is and found the SD-Card.

I have been through the numerous posts about updating the device on Piston-heads, , but all the links go to Garmin pages that don't exist anymore, so I am a little lost. Also when I search for GV54 on Garmin they appear to never have heard of it.

So I have located these NTU maps, https://www.garmin.com/en-GB/p/743228/pn/010-13088... Its 75 quid, but I find it impossible to determine if this is correct or not, as the Garmin website just takes you round in circles. They do come on an SD Card, but its a waste of 75 quid for a punt. Scusderia has some stuff on there but the maps are 250 quid or so with very little information about what you are actually getting

If anyone has updated this recently , and can provide any insight , then I would be most grateful.

Thanks

Kevin

Hi Kev,

The reason a lot of the Garmin links are dead-ends is that Garmin used to do a UK-only version of the city Navigator (I think for for less then 50 - I made a post about it a Nav map updates thread year or so ago). They have discontinued the UK-only version so you now have to buy the European version for more money, so any links to that UK SD will be broken.

The link you have is the link you need for Garmin. I always opt to buy an SD rather than a download - saves the faff and costs the same. It comes on a micro SD with an SD carrier.

As an aside, I tried the Openstreetmaps, downloaded and made my own SD card but I didn't like the way the maps displayed. I may have selected the wrong options on the download, but by then I'd successfully tried the Garmin route

These guys
https://www.activegps.co.uk/garmin-city-navigator-...
claim to have a Garmin 2022 UK-only version for £40, but I've no idea where or how considering Garmin told me they'd discontinued the UK-only maps.

Free copies of the Garmin 2023 maps for Europe are out there if you search hard enough.

There’s no such thing as free software unless it’s open source

Hence why I didn't post a link but I suspect unless you buy from Garmin direct or an authorised reseller you are paying for pirated software anyway.

Well I thought I would update you all, someone may find this useful.

So the Europe NT map arrived, on SD Card, from Garmin. But as it was Europe it said it had the UK on it, but I could not find the UK map, so when you select Where to Go on the Sat Nav and select country I could find France, Spain, Germany etc, but UK , not a chance. I tried everything, UK, United Kingdom, England, Great Britain and it would never find any of them, and the map display was blank.

Got in touch with Garmin, and they needed some info, to be honest I was more surprised they replied to my email I sent after filling out the form on their website.

In the meantime I found a supplier, with the UK only version, Garmin for 32 quid, so ordered that in the meantime while waiting for Garmin. That came exactly packaged as the map from Garmin, tried that and hey presto, worked first time.

So as I bought the SD card version from Garmin and not a download, I am able to send that back, so got it working with a 2022 map, and I saved 40 quid.

I am delighted thats its now up to date. I seem to have a lot of luck with this car, considering its a 13 plate and I picked it up on Friday the13th!!

I am sure my luck will run out!

Kev

Garmin is a mess of products. TomTom have similarly gone up their own buttholes. I wish they would just have three products, Economy, Standard and Deluxe, and stop buggering about.

Hi Kev

Who was the supplier you got the UK map from? Can you post a link?

Thanks

Thread resurrection - I wondered if anyone had any current links for Garmin sat nav updates. The dealer mentioned mine is out of date (2013 V12V) and wants over 200 quid to do it. On that basis I'm not going to bother but if there's a cheaper DIY solution I'm all ears!

I did search ebay but couldn't find anything that I was confident to buy.

Not sure if this is any good but I’m fairly sure I got one from here during Covid. The card I purchased directly from Garmin didn’t include the U.K. so I had to return it. This one allegedly includes the U.K. so it could be worth a try for the relatively low price. BRM.

You need to be careful. I bought the latest Garmin maps and they appear to have changed the file format so it wouldn't display on my Vantage Garmin system. They have gone from "NT" to "NTU" and this seems to be the issue, although Garmin were less than helpful when I contacted them to ask (once they know you have an Aston they refer you back to AML - they've probably had their knuckles rapped in the past). Their website does say that the latest maps may not display on earlier Garmin devices.

For info, the very latest AML Maps also include a system firmware update, but they are only 2019 - I have a long thread about the faults I had with date/time and how the update fixed it if you're interested in searching for it. The latest Garmin maps I have that work are for 2021.

Edited to add
The maps I bought from Garmin (both the 2021 working and latest non-working) were City Navigator series

It's very easy: The new ones are the City Navigator Europe NTU, where the older format is the City Navigator Europe NT. The NT version is updated every half year, the NTU version is updated every quarter year.
So you need to buy the NT version, which runs without problems in the Garmin Unit.
There are some versions of the Map. In the end you need an .IMG File for your Navigation Unit, but you can make it yourself out of the .GMAP Files in Mapsource or Basecamp.
Simplest way is to buy an already made SD_Card with the license on the card and put it into your unit. Then you only have to select the newer map in the unit.

Thanks all ... I found something on ebay claiming to be an NT update 2023, so for the 10% cost the dealer wanted I'll give it a bash.

If you get it working, please can you post the link, as the link I got mine from nearly 2 years ago is no longer there

Thank you

It was this - claimed it was the last one, but link still works and still claiming last one available. At the price I figured it was worth a shot, as I'm not about to spend 200+ on what is a pretty useless nav at the best of times.

As an aside/thread drift - anyone recommend a phone mount/cradle?
