Hi all, just bought AM rapide that has not been driven much 400-500 miles per year but AM services all up to date. When I drove car home from collection got stuck in traffic and when I re-started car no gauges worked or indicators car just about started thought it was a low battery. Used battery conditioner and car seemed fine, took it out today after being on conditioner and showing fully charged, after stopping a few miles from home restarting car and again just about started but threw up a DSC warning light. Car drives fine so went home put car on battery conditioner for 45mins started up and no lights. Now I am new to Aston Martins and knew there were going to be issues. Anybody got views on next steps for me and car. It is due a service and accept that I will need to spend some money, but I have worked hard for this car and want to keep it for many years. Thanks.

That sounds like a weak battery to me. If I put mine on a conditioner I tend to leave it for a minimum of 24h and more usually 48h. Not 45 mins - that’s like plugging your phone in for a minute.

Traction control and ABS are power hungry parts of a car and usually the first to play up if the battery is weak or on the way out. Plus a car that’s been sitting at a dealer for a while likely or not will have a depleted battery, all the more so if it’s had a bit of tidying up pre sale with the ignition on but no engine running.

Worst case: change the battery. Best case set your trickle charger to recondition the battery and leave the car on it for a couple of days. Good luck.

Yes my thoughts were battery and I have put battery conditioner back on and will leave overnight. Really appreciate your input and will sleep a bit better tonight. Thanks very much.

It's a reasonable bet that the battery is past its best, however, if it is, whilst charging might resolve it initially, it might also leave you stranded at some stage if it's not holding charge.

If it was mine, and based on the car's previous limited use, I'd be inclined to simply replace it. You could have it tested properly if you weren't keen on 'replacing-on-a-hunch'. I'm aware that some battery suppliers now put a minimum annual mileage on battery warranties, the last one I saw was 2,000 miles pa..

Yep, sounds like battery charge. BW13 has it spot on.

I would also consider replacing it if you notice a similar issue again after the battery has been left to charge for a couple of days as per Tarquin’s post, when they go flat it screws a lot of stuff up. I recently had a couple of uncharacteristic laboured starts on my car after leaving it stood for a few days so opted to have the battery changed sooner rather than later to mitigate any potential breakdowns and piece of mind.
