Amoc implosion
Discussion
It is all most unfortunate.
I might have misunderstood the whole thing, but this is how I see it now.
I watched the live AMOC Q & A with Peter Sprague a little while ago. He rescued Aston Martin from the receiver in 1975, and a very succesful businessman in various different industries. He spoke about his time at AML and later described his recent involvement with AMOC. After being approached, he agreed to help AMOC and spent some time doing so. He explained that throughout his long business career, which involved managing some big companies, he had never before encountered any management, that consisted of a committee of 22 people.
Also willing to help was Dr Ulrich Bez.
As you will know, prior to the recent vote, many of the local area reps seemed to join together in opposing any change. Their circular letter might possibly have influenced the vote result.
Not surprised if the new group have resigned. They offered their experience and guidance, so why would people of that calibre waste any more time on the matter?
I enjoyed the local meetings, but since COVID had not attended anything. My membership was therefore not being of much benefit through no fault of the club, but after learning about the 'antics', I definitely decided not to renew.
Having thoroughly enjoyed reading the AMHT magazine at Christmas, I thought that was much more interesting than the advert strewn AMOC magazines.
I presume COVID and then the 'antics', might have had a big effect on the membership numbers.

I signed for AMOC in Oct and it’s been nothing but computer drama and letters about it.
I have no idea what’s going on.
I just want to talk to and meet other Aston owners.
About the same. Rejoined in November at the NEC show. Nothing has come from the HQ that has given me any sense of value for money.I have no idea what’s going on.

However... thankfully, a local area (Gloucestershire, #22) got in contact after I joined. Those who manage that area are absolutely brilliant and make the membership worth every penny.
I simply ignore/delete the "fun and games" messages and announcements. If I want to see a circus perform, I'll head for a big tent.

I think it is time for an alternative Aston club …..
I think that's the very likely risk/outcome. More likely, it will be fragmented and ad-hoc meeting organised via Facebook or similar. No politics. Just enjoyment of our cars and likeminded souls.nickv12 said:

Hello Nick,
I too was in the Gloucestershire group, but as mentioned above, the pandemic has interrupted my socialising.
Yes, Tom Wood did a great job as Area Coordinator, so I am sure he made you welcome. He is probably too busy looking after his growing fleet of Astons now, so has handed over the reins to another very keen gentleman.
Think there seem to be a few contributors here who are Area 22 members, but I only discovered one, the ex-owner of a yellow V12 with Gaydon associations. As we have usernames here, it is not easy to know when meeting people.
Have you been to the Foston's Ash meetings?
David.

Tom Wood is now leading the historic section (but still very much present), so handed the baton over to Andrew, who has been very pro-active. We're in good hands and plenty of events are being considered for 2022
Hope to meet you at a future event. I hope to bring my Cosmopolitan Yellow V12 Vantage AMR (not as vivid as full-on-yellow) when practical - ie. I don't need more than 2 seats!

Couldn't this Pistonheads Forum be a vehicle [sic] for Aston get-togethers, like at Burleigh a few years ago?
Budleigh was a magnificent event, which we all still remember fondly and even the weather cooperated.
Ed the organiser did a wonderful job, but I think it was a very arduous task for him, so understandably perhaps that is why it was a 'one-off'.
Are you volunteering Philip, to be Ed?
