Bidding starts 12th Jan, ends 18th Jan.

Says 'A 4.7 Aston Martin Vantage' sort of.....

Obviously, if I had a 4.7 I wouldn't be posting this and letting others know biggrin

"Great pate for 4.7 V8 in DVLA Auction"

I've heard of food and wine matching, but didn't know we are now required to match our cars to flavoured meat products!

I used to own V8 VTG before I even dreamed of being able to afford a Vantage.

Now have VA09 AGE on my 09 V8V, which came with the car.

Quite like the series VA05 AGE, VA06 AGE with VA07 AGE being the pick of the bunch.

Makes you think twice without trying too hard.

I don't know which country you live in, but your government has clearly missed an opportunity to obtain easy money, without taking it from tax payers (voters).

The UK's first lady Prime Minister realised that registration marks were being bought and sold, sometimes for significant sums.
She decided to allow the government department that deals with vehicle registrations, to sell the marks which people wanted.
The cost of each private plate is nothing, so the sale amount is almost all pure profit. Buyers are happy to pay and the government gets the money. What a wonderful business model.

There is an enormous quantity of old valuable plates available for them to sell, because years ago when vehicles were scrapped, the plates were not reissued. The very earliest plates had just a single letter, eg. A1. Then it went to two letters eg. AB 24. Registration marks of that type now sell for huge sums. When a combination spells a word or name, it has a higher value. TOM 1; MAG 1C; COM 1C.

When year markings were first included in registration marks (1963), there was gradually a move to people retaining the older marks. Initially they were very cheap. I bought a two letter with three numbers mark for £10, years ago. It might fetch £10,000 now, but not for sale.
