I’m seriously considering a DBS Superleggera. Mainly because of its looks. I’ve always thought Astons were beautiful cars, well some of them anyway, and I think the DBS is stunning. But I do have some concerns.

My main concern is the amount of power and torque. How manageable is it and are those rear wheels easily overcome as some reviews suggest?

I’m currently looking at models circa 2019, and only interested in the coupe, not the volante.

Should I spend a bit more and go for an 812 instead? Although that doesn’t solve the power and torque problem. biggrin

Only had mine a few weeks but here's my early thoughts.
Looks, imo the best looking car in its price range by a mile.
Power, in all but dry conditions if you try to put the power down to quick it'll kill you...
Sounds simply awesome.
Biggest surprise was how comfortable and easy to drive in GT mode.

Not driven one but surely it's obvious that the throttle pedal has various positions and doesn't need pushing all the way down.

I drive the DB11 (not DBS S) and in sport+ mode on cold tyres you can easily lose traction if you are leaden-footed with the accelerator..

The answer is to not give it plenty of right foot unless the tyres are up to temperature and the road surface is dry.

In my opinion it is bad judgement to rely on the electronics to cover up for poor driving.

With respect in my opinion its not simply a case of throttle application. Some cars are better at getting the power down than others.
I found my DBSS which i owned for around 9 months to be particularly poor in that respect.

I saw one and loved it at sevenoaks, sounded good for a turbo as well, then saw a dB11 volante next to one in Bordeaux the other day and i have to say, i thought the DB11 looked more cohesive, still liked the SL but it surprised me how good the DB11 looked next to the SL, no V12 volante in the DB11 though.

I cant see the power being that much of an issue, though the delivery via turbos is harder to modulate, but you have good weight there to help with traction

We’ve got 720hp 1100nm in our GT and that only weighs 1550kg, no issues at all but it does have cup2s and rarely goes out in the wet.

think you'd be fine, more so than in the 812 which ive seen a fair few come a cropper in.

I own and use DBSS for two years (now 17k miles driven). As mentioned, this car does not put the power down really well. The torque/power curve is sometimes difficult to modulate. But it is manageable, you just have to be careful with the pedal vs. tires temperature and road condition.

DB11 AMR with 630bhp is similar to my Mclaren 570S in that you have to be very smooth with power application

Too much power overwhelms the wheels regardless of weight and weather and temp

I also considered DBS SL but don’t need another 90bhp for nearly double the price. Beautiful it is it isn’t worth twice a DB11.

The DBS is amazing but has too much power.

I’d still get one, but it’s absolutely the case that you cannot use its power on the road 99% of the time. How much that matters to you is the question, really.

I think a DBSS with four wheel drive would be superb. For us here in the UK a car with this much power needs to be four wheel drive something like a Porsche Turbo S or a Bentley. The new M series cars are now four wheel drive.

Thanks everyone. I think the power and torque has put me off a little. I’ve now ordered a 992 C4 GTS. It’s going to be a 12 month wait but I know exactly what I’m getting and it’s power and torque will be very manageable. Porsche is where my heart really lies, but I’d like to scratch that Aston itch one day.

Tried a Vanquish S? The figures are lower, but very usable. Sounds better than a DBSS too… albeit some would argue not quite as pretty.

911 SSE / something old enough to properly wear Fuchs itch here!

One of the saddest conclusions to a thread (meant jokingly)

But also feels a bit inevitable when concerns are raised over a car having too much power, ive always felt that was porsches niche tbh as they’re a very ‘safe’ car for people to buy and its one of the reasons why ive never bought one, GT2s appeal mind..

While you are waiting a year for your Porsche, why not buy an Aston Martin V12 Vantage (6 speed manual).

You will 'scratch that Aston itch' and have ball. When you want to sell, buyers should be queuing, because it is a very special, limited edition, never again sports car.

I knew exactly what this link was going to be, I still clicked on it, still watched it all the way through, still do not regret buying one. I am however sad it's under wraps till the salt is off the road. The emotional aspect of this car is off the chart. That sound on a cold start, the feeling when you get driving it just right and the reactions it brings out in others. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.

I think the Vantage V12 manual is possibly one of Astons best cars.
Nothing in the new lineup makes me want to change it that's for sure.
