I cant believe how high the dealers and some online genuine parts suppliers charge for some parts

For example

NGK coils are £12, genuine £100
Lambda sensor £40 genuine £200
Sparkplugs are outrageous
Brake pads and discs are at least double price

Loads of parts like service items are ridiculous.

Dont know what you all think but if i can get an equivalent item for less price i will as i try to get value for money

I just dont know how they can justify these prices.

Get a specialist to perform the rip-off items, and use AM for your yearly stamp

There are loads of OE parts that have a perfectly good equivalent AM dont make everything , brakes are brembo, pads are pajid etc etc.
My favourite are air filters at 100 quid ea , ADL blueprint listed for db9 20 quid a pair!!
I dont know how to do it but we should compile a list for all to use

And cabin filters. Aston wanted £126 to supply and fit, an identical part for an RX-8 (they even share a part number) cost me £9.50. I then fitted them myself in just over 5 minutes having done no more preparation than watching a video on youtube.

I get that they are a business that needs to make a living, but £126 to supply a £10 part and spend 5 minutes fitting it is taking the piss.

talking of which, does anyone know if the headlight washers in the bumper of the db9 are shared with anything else ?

More than likely - if you can get the offending part out it’ll have a part nr on it.

Google is then your friend !

I used to provide the dealer with the same oil they would use for the service (12 litres of Castrol RS)

Cost me €120 instead of €380 the dealers charged.

AMOC Forum has some great spreadsheets for alternative parts. Unfortunately for most of the Pistonhead boys they are for pre Gaydon cars.

Tell me about it. I had my V12V serviced in Italy just once . They changed the oil and filter and checked the battery 950 euros.
From then on i supplied all parts and got my local specialised mechanics do it all. It is around 150 euros plus parts now every year.

Swop it for something you can afford to maintain.

If you think that AM are unreasonable then try Maserati!

I've heard of Maserati owners going to Ferrari for shared parts as they are cheaper from there.

Are early V12 Vantage manual engine air filters the same as DB9/DBS?

And is the pollen filter/s the same for all pre MY12 Vantages as well?

Maybe we need a list of all Ford/Volvo/other manufacturers cross referenced parts

If you are going to be condescending, it helps if you can spell.

There is something in the FAQ, but would be good to have a dedicated one. I did try and start something a few months back, but it seemed to have got lost in the threads. Would need to be a sticky.

Sounds like a great idea.
Now that you can get your hands on a early DB9 or Vantage for low £20,000s, does seem like there are a lot of potential new owners that are put off by the price of some parts. I say that as someone who's DB9's headlight washer covers fell off, bizarrely both within a couple of days of each other!

I had a quote from Nissan for over £800 to replace front and rear discs and pads on my old 350z.
I bought the Brembo parts and had them fitted at a specialist for under £350 all in. I thought that was a naughty markup . . . Aston main dealer prices are shocking!

The idea of a parts table is great! I have a sneaking suspicion that Repants.lol chap might already have something similar on his shop?

Three-tier parts list would be briliiant!

1 - OEM
2 - Jag/Ford/Volvo OEM (cheaper)
3 - Third party (cheapest)

MODs - if links aren't permitted feel free to remove this. US-based so not much use to UK owners - but worth a gander: https://www.redpants.lol/shop

This Is the same with most car brands you can go to the main dealer or use euro car parts
I know when i needed discs for my Vantage S I could only go to a main dealer to get them.
At a cost of around £2000 for discs and pads fitted, the tears I got brembos fitted elsewhere for a much cheaper price.
Kinda like Shopping at Aldi or Waitrose you know you can get similar cheaper if you want too...

We have a spreadsheet on AMOC forum for the original Vanquish. Many parts are Jag/Ford /Volvo/Denso etc.

Aston mark up is something else!
