TVR Cerbera to DB7 Vantage?
Discussion
Folks, apologies if this one has been done to death but I am considering chopping in my 2000, TVR Cerbera 4.5 Lightweight for a DB7 Vantage (budget around £50k).
What can I expect by way of:
* running costs (5k per year)
* depreciation (say for 2 years of ownership and 10k miles)
* reliability
* etc
Any help, hints and tips appreciated.

I have made exactly that move, but it's a little too early for me to give you running costs on the Vantage.
Other than to say it hasn't cost me a penny in 6 months.
Hi Jeremy. I remember your Cerb being for sale. Did you sell it privately in the end of go for a trade in? Also, where did you pick up your Vantage? Any tips on where's good to look?
How do insurance costs compare for the Cerbera?
Any regrets with the Aston?
Questions, questions.

I part exchanged the Cerbera in the end, and found my DB7 at Broughtons. I'd suggest looking at the franchised Aston Martin dealers (there is a locator here), in the Sunday Times and possible also at specialists like Chiltern Aston Centre.
Insurance costs are similar to the Cerbera for me.
No regrets: the DB7 is quite different to the Cerbera (much more sophisticated, less raw and probably not quite as quick on paper) but as a GT car I think it's fantastic. The Vantage has so much torque that making progress is effortless ; it's a proper "grown up" toy with a feeling of solidity.

After many TVR's including three Ceberas I made the same move. The DB7 Vantage Volante is more of a GT of course but the whole driving experience ie the immense torque, the feel of quality, the surprisingly agile handling (the car shrinks around you very quickly), the (despite what some reports have said) super manual gearbox and the sound of that exhaust (you must have a sports exhaust fitted)and all of this whilst you a sitting amongst acres of leather in a gentlemans club! is quite simply sublime.
Costs will not come as a surprise after Cerbera ownership. Make sure you take advantage of the AM warranty arrangements. For courtesey and quality of service try Stratstones in Wilmslow if you are in the North West.

Jeremy, if it's not to cheeky of me to ask, I'd be very interested in learning what you got for your Cerb against what you paid for your Vantage. From memory I recally your Cerb was of a similar spec, age and mileage to my own.
Thanks,
gixxer

...and to pick up on this, jeremyc, how's the experience been so far? I'm thinking of doing something similar...
DB7 is the consumate Grand Tourer able to cover huge distances effortlessly. It gets just as many admiring looks as the Cerbera, and I would say is just as fast in real-world motoring. The key difference is that you don't climb out at the end of a journey feeling like you've done 10 rounds with Mr. Tyson.
Oh, and if you're particularly friendly with your local mechanics don't buy one: mine hasn't needed to go near a garage yet.

Thanks for the encouragement -- it's just what I need! Have to say, it's water I've always wanted to dip my toes into and now the opportunity is there.
Off tomorrow to look at some cars...
