Need some advice chaps
Discussion
Watchas all, first time Aston poster.
Currently running a Grif (he says falling over laughing, well ok, its currently sitting in the garage while I play with the electrics) and Astons have been playing on my mind.
6.3 Virage or a DB7 ? Or V8 Vantage? £30-£40k.
Im in a quandry, expert opinion chaps. Milage well be about 3k/yr, will be used as a GT though and M-way yomping.
Ooo, it feels good to have grown up enough to graduated to the Aston enclosure! I wont be selling the Grif, Im a Blackpool boy born n bred, but I think an Aston coupe would complement it superbly in the garage.

If you want "reasonable" running costs, it has to be the 6-cylinder DB7 ( these guys are great independents - www.db7centre.co.uk ).
The V8 Vantage is a superb car, but you won'tget one for 30-40k (well, if you do you'll spend the same getting into tip top condition). A Virage 6.3 is a much underrated car.
Also take a good look at the Cars for Sale section on the AM owners club www.amoc.org
But I'd have the DB7......soooooooooo beautiful

Ahh, I didnt mean the rip snorting 550BHP V8 Vantage. No, seems they go for £70k+
Would love one though but that much money is earmarked for something different
The DB7 is a great car, Vantage is best (£40k will soon buy you an OK one), 6.3s (genuine) are very rare (there are a few around), but good value for money (400+ bhp, £45k ish), 80s V8 Vantage will be questionable at £40k, 6 cylinder DB7 too slow in my opinion, compared to the other cars in your list.
Hope this helps,
William

The DB9 sounds fantastic too, and happens to be the best looking car on sale at the moment (and probably for some time). Just my one sided opinion
Don't get me wrong, I'd love one of each. I just don't think I could describe the V8 as beautiful. Elegant, brutal, handsome.....yes.
Two ends of the Aston spectrum as far as styling are concerned, yet both are stunning cars.

Hmmm,
Im actually starting to have doubts about the DB9. Im not a great fan of this front/mid engined lark as it is, I think it makes the front just look far too long for the car. The new AMv8 looks better to me as it is shorter.
As for the 80's Vantage, looks great to me. The 90's twin screw Vantage looks even better.
The best looker of the lot for me though remains the plain simple 6 pot Db7. Simple, elegant, classical lines.

If you can find one, I'd have the Virage 6.3. Compleatly different from the base Virage (also a great car), and very quick, with a great noise and looks.
Watch for rust, and all the usual Virage problems
I just found one. Had the 6.3 and Vantage coachwork.
Dear God its gorgeous, maahhuuusive presence and it sounds awesome. Drove my first DB7 today and well frankly it bored the pants off me. Felt like I was driving a Mondeo. I was very disappointed, as a car overall I liked it a lot, but it never felt special at all. The Virage though felt like it had been hand built from the essance of God himself.
As for the AMV8 yes Im well aware it is also front/mid engined, but it works better for because the overal car is shorter, so the dimensions work better.
God I loved that Virage though!

As I mentioned in my earlier post, the 6 pot DB7 is too slow really - but great to look at. The 6.3 is much rarer, a bit more special but still pretty fragile. Where was the one you drove?
Good luck
William
Runneymede.
Im hoping to try a manual DB7, see if it feels any better. Outright speed isnt so much of an issue for me...I run a Grif 430 for that...but I want her to feel like she can waft and sprint whenever she takes her fancy.
