Hi all -

Having just driven my Vantage for the first time in a week or so I've had a couple of problems. The ever so reliable folding wing mirror issue has reoccured (having only just been reset a couple of weeks ago) and the window didn't drop properly.

I've managed to reset the windows but I believe there is no way of reseting the mirrors. I've never considered it before but I think I should probably buy a battery charger.

There have been a few posts on chargers, but not for a while so I hope you don't mind me revisiting it....firstly what is the difference between a battery conditioner and a battery charger, secondly what's the recommendation?

Thanks in advance.

The battery conditioner is an electronic controlled device which can be plugged into your car for months at a time (if required) and it will monitor the battery condition, pulsating on and off to keep the battery charged to optimal condition (depending on the condition of the battery). A battery charger is really just a temporary way to recharge a discharged battery.

I have the genuine AM battery conditioner which is actually manufactured by a company called Ctek, you can buy the AM equivalent from Ctek for a cheaper price and it will do the same job.
AM have changed the design of the newer battery conditioner and again you can buy the same non branded item cheaper than the AM one...........for example

I love profit as much as any businessman, but I really can't see why we should pay 3x the price for the difference of a silk screened logo on the standard charger and a branded cardboard box.

This is my generic CTek which I used on my 2008 V8VR for the rare times that it was garaged in the winter. Seem to remember that if you didn't use the car for a week it was advisable to plug it in, but who can stay away from driving an Aston Martin for a week!

Thats what I used too - the 5amp version and buy the adapter. Only mod I did was make a customer extension lead but you'd need that on the Aston one too.

Asked my sales contact at the dealer about the CTEK charger recently. Asking price was $750 for the AM branded one. Got the normal CTEK charger for $115. Crazy.

As above just don't buy the aston Martin branded one. There are loads of ctek ones on Amazon that will do the job for £30-40. You might need to buy a cigar lighter adapter as well from ctek depending on where you want to plug it in

They probably make that price the same, as on the new car options list. At the time of ticking new car options boxes, purchasers are both excited, free spending and under the influence of that 'free' coffee. I do not blame AML, because we must remember that they lose millions of pounds each year.

Has anyone found a way of routing the charger cable into the boot, without squeezing the cable, or tailgate rubbers? I leave the tailgate slightly ajar, but the electronics know that, and so cannot lock the car.

My vantage and two states of shut - proper shut and just caught on the first catch leaving more play for the cable - car would lock in both.

When I want to plug in the conditioner I lock the car with the remote then open the boot via its own button on the remote so the car is locked but I have access to the socket in the boot. I think this leaves the car secure whilst charging. Hope this makes sense and the locking system is not year dependent.

The wire is thin enough to shut the boot with out any damage to rubber or wire.
I have no problems.

On the DB9 (MY09+) they have specifically accounted for the fact that you need to leave the boot open for the battery conditioner. "If you lock the car while the boot is open, the vehicle will lock and arm .. Tilt and motion sensors will not activate.. If boot is then closed, tilt and motion sensors will activate and the whole vehicle will be locked and armed"

Hi - thanks for the replies.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/CTEK-MXS-5-0-Temperature-C...

Excuse the dumb questions - how does this actually connect in the car?

The V8 Vantage Roadster has a plastic flap the right hand side of the boot, behind the flap is a socket (cigarette type) where you can plug in the conditioner.
The boot can be closed allowing the cable from the conditioner to exit without damage to either the rubber boot seal or the conditioner cable.

I'm guessing the charger I posted, the CTEK MXS 5.0 doesn't have a cigarette plug?

Thanks Jon, my bad - I didn't realised that you could buy one as an optional extra!
