The following details were posted on the AMOC website forum after last week's dealer presentation of the new AMV8 Vantage. (hope it's OK to "borrow" this info and post it here)

Some seem to be disappointed that it's slower than the Porsche around the 'Ring, but does it really matter? It's one of the most gorgeous cars to hit the roads in a long time (well, since the DB9 anyway )

Another source on the AMOC site saw a couple of examples at Gaydon last week and inform us that the front lights feature some pretty striking LED indicators running up the inside of the unit.

Not too sure about the colour of the car to be shown at Geneva.....metallic canary yellow? Still, it should ensure it gets plenty of attention. I'll have mine in black please. Or BRG.

380bhp
410 lb ft of torque
1570 kg
0-60 mph 4.8
0-100 mph 10.7
30-70 mph faster than new 911 C2S
Lap Nurburghring in 8.07 mins (8.05 for C2S and 8.01 for DB9)
Externally very similar to concept, but different wheels
Similar interior to DB9 except different steering wheel and wood on dash replaced by metal or carbon fibre as standard with wood as option.

Colour of launch car to be Metallic Canary yellow!!!

Nothing official (yet), but don't expect much change from £80k. If you haven't already got your name down you're looking at a long waiting list, or be prepared to pay around £100k for one from a specialist dealer. (AMT already have an ad in Top Marques....POA!)

Good grief man. 0-60 in 4.8 and 0-100 in 10.7 seconds isn't exactly slow.

Serves you right for comparing everything to a pesky Porsche Turbo's

Besides, the Aston will have beauty and soul in spades....and I don't think there's a established measurement for that

I do wish peoplke would styop this fascination with lap times. Most drivers cannot get 100% from their car, so finding out that its 0.5 seconds slower around a lap then the next car doesnt really matter.

Well, not to me anyway. I can live with my car if it is slower around a circuit.

I guess it's because comparing 0-60 times is pretty well meaningless these days so a lap time on a similar track like Nurbergring is a perceived as being abetter guide to the cars overall abilities. Rich...

Can the test drivers continually match their times around the 'Ring, or do manufacturers simply take the fastest time recorded, even if this is only ever achieved once? On such a long circuit, I'd be amazed if they can be that consistant.

Also,I remember reading how the Porsche Carrera GT was quicker around the 'Ring than the SLR, but even Walter Rohl admitted it could be pretty hairy in the GT.

To me, it really doesn't matter. All I know is that the sight of an AMV8 is going to make me go week at the knees, whilst a 997 will scarcely get a second glance (although I'm sure it's the other way around for Porschephiles). It's a thing of beauty

I think it was neatly summed up in the 'Best Cars of 2005' supplement included with the recent Top Gear magazine:

“… even though the 911 is one of the greatest engineering triumphs in motoring history, and arguably (in the new 997 guise) one of the most complete and usable sports cars of its age, it’s still not an Aston”.

There can be little doubt that the Porsche is a good/great car but, for me, the Aston has an indefinable something extra. I'm definitely keeping my slot.
