Import or Buy in the UK?

Has anyone seriously considered importing an Aston via these firms that advertise in well known car mags? I'm on the verge of laying down £5k at a UK dealer for a DB9 Volante with an expectation of a 2 - 3 year waiting list. Out of curiosity I enquired about price and delivery of the same car with an importer of "specialist cars" and was surprised when they responded with a 12 month delivery for a right hooker. Even with the VAT added, the price was also competitive with cash paid direct to a AM dealer in Belgium and no middle-man to disappear into the sunset. Am I missing something obvious here? I'm assuming a UK spec car would be honoured for servicing in the UK etc..
