A little birdy tells me that any day now, the project AMV8 will officaly be named the DB8.

Can't really disclose anymore at the moment, so watch this space.

Bugger. There goes my specially-saved "V8 Vantage" numberplate. I can imaginall the D88 XXX numberplates have gone by now.

I shall have to find another way to get cash for the DB9!

I always wanted it to be DB8 (or at least not AMV8).
However, in a few years time AM will have to replace the DB9....with the DB10....or should that be DB11 to make way for the DB10 ('cos that'll be the DB8 replacement). Confused? Hmmmmm.

Personally, I think I'd really like to see 3 separate names....another "V" name for the V8, the DB series and the Vanquish.

Oh, and then the "performance" models should be Vantages and any low volume specials "GTs".

Just my thoughts

I thought FORD were unhappy with DB8 as it sounded too much like Jag's XK8??

I think the "official" line was that the DB9 was such a big leap over the DB7 that it deserved to "jump" a name.

I noticed that during the recent news articles about Jaguar production moving from Browns Lane, they referred to the "whizzy new sports car" as the XK150. Could this be the proposed name for the new XK8/R replacement, or just a code name?

I suspect that was just a plausible excuse for the 'missing' DB8 moniker. Given that the new car is supposed to be relatively cheap is makes much sense for it to have a model number which is 'less than' a DB9 - and what else is there, unless they just call it V8?

The new Jag is X150, not XK150 - Jaguar development projects all have X numbers.

Good point on the DB moniker. And I should listen more carefully next time I watch the news.....sorry I could have sworn he called it an XK (but he DEFINATELY called it a whizzy new sports car )

Fantastic news, any idea what sort of figures we are looking at for AMV8 premiums for a slot say within 6 months of launch?

They could quite happily move away from DB. The Virage wasn't a DB anything. It could be the AM Vanquish, AM V8 (hard to have a new name for a new model though).

David Brown isn't a significant part of the AM image.

This is true, but also there (apparently) has been a one-off DB8 show special or something.

Production is confirmed - June '05. Get you order in as the queue is building!!

Name is set to be AMV8 Vantage, see 'Aston Martin Vanquish Tweaked' news thread for more.

How about the simple fact that DB8 to the text generation looks like 'debate'?

It definatly won't be called a DB8. Definatly will be built, as it says in the news AML are setting on production staff in the near future.

And the unofficial reason was that people would have assumed it to be an 8 cylinder car and of course it's a V12. Rich...

Thinking on this.....DB10 doesn't sound too bad, but DB11? (bit of a mouthful, if you ask me). DB12 has a nice ring to it though

...which is another good reason why DB8 would be a good name for the new car. Together with the fact that it's going to be cheaper than DB9.

Ah well, the new AM website states it's going to be V8 Vantage so I guess that's that
