Hi all, I've been lurking about on this forum for a while now and thought I'd better post.

I will be lucky enough to be in the market in a few months for a super/GT car with a budget of around £100k.

Was originally looking at 360 Spider and DB7 Vantage Volantes, but happened to see the residuals of Vanquishs They're only just outside of this price, making me think they're the bargain of the century!

I was wondering if there have been any known faults since launch, or any inherant things you need to look out for. TVR's I know like the back of my hand, but I'm a bit new to Astons...

Also, are there any any actual Vanquish owning PHers that can share their experiences or two.

Any help/comments would be very much appreciated!

ShadyTree has recently picked up his DB9. May be worth PMing him as he considered/owned several AM's before making this purchase.

The first thing to understand and appreciate about a Vanquish is that it is not really an everyday car. There has been a lot of bad publicity regarding the gearbox, however, it must be understood that the car has a manual gearbox and thus must be driven as such. If sitting stationery at lights or a junction you MUST engage neutral and not sit with the car in gear.

There have been various updates to the software controlling the gearbox to make it a little better, but the thing to remember with Vanquish is that it is never going to be perfect. It is a handbuilt English supercar.

Residuals are better for 2+2 cars (I know you can't get anyone in there, but just trust me on this one), and NEVER buy a car in any other colour than Silver, Black or Blue.

The Vanquish is an awesome car, but it does have its failings. As long as you go into this with your eyes open wide and use a dealer that UNDERSTANDS these cars, then you will love the car.

E-mail me should you need anything further.

It's not going to be used as one. A pure weekend toy...

I never knew that. Thanks!

I've owned five TVR's, so I'm sure anything's better!

I see the odd one in green, what about that? However, I would say that silver is the "safe" choice...

thanks again for the advice. The more and more I think about it, the more I'm tempted! Going to my local dealer a week Sat to test drive a DB7 and a Vanquish if they can get one for then. Can't wait!

That's a shame concidering green is a traditional Aston colour. The Vanquish concept (Project Vantage) looked superb in green.

I agree, but you can't argue with the buying public and they all want silver.

My uncle has just got rid of his Vanquish, and he said it was terrible. It had to be sent back to the factory several times and he's replacing it with a Continental GT. YMMV.

Been interested in Astons for years and now I've sold my Noble GTO 3R I'm having a serious look. I loved the Noble but I've been unable to take it to the extreme on our roads, cos of traffic etc.
Always hankered for an (Aston ) even back in 83 when i started my buisness, but by the time i could afford one there was always some thing that performed
better.

So done the ballistic thing and next year there are many to choose from, the new Aston AMV8 Vantage which i love the look of and takes me back to 83 when they where the car to have. Then there's the Noble M14 same money, different animal.
Even though i still love speed the roads round my neck of the woods wont allow me to explore the full potential so it's a GT i need and i'm hoping the Aston is the one, roll on road testing ,as i'm gonna stay without till either Aston or Noble take my money. Lets hope that the concept does not change too much.
