Does sound like it to me.... Interesting...

Now if only they could do the V12, keeping the exhaust note and minimise lag I would be happy...

There's a whistle but pretty insignificant. Not convinced it's a turbo, certainly a V8 though! I think that if there was a turbo on there, we wouldn't hear the engine properly...

In my opinion Aston simply have to produce turbo charged engines for a whole raft of reasons not just performance. I would cite emissions being somewhere near the top. I reckon on there being a 4.5 ltr turboed V8 boasting 475 Bhp giving 30mpg just around the corner.

If Mr.Aston would confirm this can I have the first one please? Preferably in Silver of some sorts!

Doesn't sound turboed to me. Sounds just like any other V8V.

After a bit more thought and a peer under the bonnet I reckon 4ltr V8 plus turbo will give 475BHP, 30 MPG loads more torque plus a significant reduction in emissions. If it could lose 200 - 300 Kgms as well we would have a serious contender which would retain all the Aston Martin niceties. Go on AM do it!

I agree I wouldn't want to see a turboed Aston, but a supercharged one would be pretty cool smile

It might not be something that some of us want but I think Aston would be silly not to at least test/experiment with forced induction technologies given the push for lower emissions and higher mpg. Look at BMW these days, they've invested very heavily in such technologies - most of their current range is forced induction.

I'm holding judgement at the moment but hopefully time will tell what they're up to.

+1 I don't think they have any choice if they want to appeal to current consumer trends

How about Aston keep the Cygnet for green purposes and make all their V12s 7.0l and V8 5.0l that way they can have incredibley high CO2 emissions resulting in stupendous tax, and ridiculous mpg resulting in unbelievable fill ups at the stations!
Means great sounds, ooooooophms of power, and ultimately the ONLY V8 and V12 engines to not have turbos or superchargers!
Making top line Astons as rare as rocking horse sh..... Coz only the insanely rich could afford to run them!

"so you drive an Aston eh?"

"yeah, only non turbo V12 in the world"

"blimey you must loaded!"

"yup"

Never having driven a supercharged car ( although my younger has an Astra VXR turbo which is a very spirited drive to say the least!) what are the specific differences a driver will feel between a supercharged car and a turbo charged one?

The cygnet is NOT there for green purposes. Aston don't have to worry about the EU legislation, they are exempt as they produce less than 10,00 vehicles per annum. Dr Bez has stated this.

Cool! So ditch the IQ rip off, turn up the litrege on the engines, whack up the CO2s and make Astons loud, proud and forced induction free!

LET ASTONS BE DIRTY AND POWERFUL! (underneath their beautiful and gentlemanly exteriors)
:-D

Glad it bugs you too, it really winds me up people quoting some motoring journalist that just made it up. Was it Top Gear?

Also the Cygnet is a Toyota.

You can nail an Aston badge to anything you want, but the CO2 figures and so on would have been for Toyota. They're the manufacturer.

Interested what's on the V5..?

Just go back to original Cygnet threads...there weren't too many not swallowing that BS...

As for turbos, don't care. Modern turbos are very good without all the old traits from the 80s. And turbos were originally invented to help with economy...ignoring all the green mumbo jumbo, this has to be a good thing.

As long as they don't chuck in a 4cyl engine and can find some way of preserving engine note I couldn't care less whether they use NA, turbos or superchargers.
