Bluetooth handsfree kit
Discussion
We've got a MY07 V8V with the Bluetooth handsfree kit.Frankly its pretty poor for the caller at the other end.
I suspect most of this is town to cabin/tyre noise above about 40mph which swamps the poorly located mic.
Has anyone had this resolved?
I know I'm not alone in having this issue as I've seen others comment on it.
I have looked at locating a different mic elsewhere but there is no point reinventing the wheel if there is a known resolution.
When I moaned about it during warranty it was the usual "they all do that sir".
I've done a search but found nothing. Apologies if this has been done to death, but it eluded me.

I concur - a remote mic was added to the right of the drivers sunvisor immediately I mentioned it to the dealer - they called it a mouse, presumably becasue it looks like a small computer mouse.
I'd press for it if I was you because this is not wear and tear but a basic design fault in the original.

Hmm. Interesting. Does anyone know if this problem persists on later Vantages? Mine is 2009 and the few occasions I used hands-free I wasn't blown away, but I'm not sure what to expect.
Well mine is a MY 2010 so if yours is working then looks like the problem has passed yours by! The feedback I got from people I was calling using the hands free was all about it being too quiet at their end to hear me. My reception was perfect but obviously not the other way. The fix is very neat - not nearly as bad as I imagined when the dealer told me what they would have to do. it even matches the colour of the roof lining!
I suggest you try using it a bit more and ask how you are sounding to the other person. - if it's very quiet then go and get the fix hope that helps.

I'm on it. Anyone know a good contact at AM, or do I just address it to the "Customer Relations Department"I'd press for it if I was you because this is not wear and tear but a basic design fault in the original.

Mine has the second microphone (bought pre owned) and luckily I have the Taylors Grey headlining so it doesn't stand out. Don't get complaints from the far end on calls
Can't imagine its a big cost to buy, but could be costly on labour charges depending on how it integrates into the original system.

I was told the wire runs under the lining of the roof and goes into the rear of the mirror where it simply is connected to the old mics wiring? The dealer described it as a quick and easy job. I know mine is invisible apart from the actual new mic itself - made in Taylors grey as it happens, or as near as damn it.steveatesh said:
