Hi Folks,

Went out last night for a 60 mile run, mostly A roads. This morning the car has been revving itself, or lurching with no throttle applied, at one point revving itself to 5k - which was a little alarming! I've read I am sure about something under the bonnet needing cleaning, but the magical PH search is not working. Can anyone advise?

Is it what I think it is (something needing de-coking) or something less pleasant?

Thanks everyone

Kris

Aren't the throttles drive-by-wire on these? Could be as simple as a bad potentiometer in the accelerator pedal. Possibly the throttle position sensor.

Or check the carpets/mats to see if anything's getting stuck.

If both of those don't cure it, try resetting the battery (remembering to then reset the seats and windows etc).

Don't think it's particularly difficult - undo the jubilee clip on the air-intake side of the throttle body, use carb cleaner to remove any deposits*, replace. Leave a while before starting. Always a good idea to take some photos of the engine and close up of the area you work on before you start, and as you progress.

ETA: Don't rub or scrub or use any force - there is (usually) a coating.

boxedin the last time I lifted a spanner on a car was when I had a 1.3 Ghia Fiesta (1983 vintage).. any clue where I start looking? Part of the AM experience is getting ones hands dirty smile
