After nearly 5 months of ownership I took out the Fuse22 (from boot fuse box) the other day. Can not say I notice that much difference, if any.

So my question is how can I tell if the Vacuum pipes (not sure the technical term) mod has been done to the car instead of the fuse removal mod? Is there way to look under the rear of car?

I might pop the fuse back in tomorrow just to double check I can not notice a differnce in exhaust note.

Kind Regards

Try fuse 15 instead. If the valves are disconnected you will certainly notice the difference.

What model year is your car as Rob said the fuse changed to 15 for the 011MY (reported in the Definitive guide first wink)
Best way to test is to take the parcel shelf out the rear and accelerate from 3,000 to 5,000 with the fuse in and out, with the fuse in the valve and volume should open-up at 4500, with it out it should be loud at the same volume all the time.

I have had the vacuum pipes removed and blanked off. If you get underneath the car with a torch you should be able to see. Having said that you should be in no doubt because our S makes a hell of a racket with the job done. Love it !

It is a 2006 model. I have just had a look under the car quickly and on the passenger side I saw a couple of what looked like black rubber pipes and it look like one had a cap in the end of it, but that might be something else. I shall try and upload a photo later on.

I did also think that on the M3 motorway each morning at about 3000 rpm it had a nice howl to it, despite people say they were not as loud under 4000. But then this is first Aston I have owned so am none the wiser about exhuast noises.

I really can not complain if it has been done as it sounds fantastic anyway, never heard a car like it!

Well it is Fuse22 then as its a 2006 model. Does it not sound any different at startup / tickover with the fuse in /out? Above 4000rpm there is no difference.
You need to come along to one of the meets when Burntout is there. That's really loud!

I had a DB9 (f22 removed) and moved to a V8V and to be honest was disappointed with how quiet the V8 sounded, even with f22 removed.

If you really want a fantastic exhuast note, then I would recommend trying to get an aftermarket exhaust, I have a Larini and I think it sounds much better - louder but not chav loud. The standard exhaust is also massively heavy so the weight loss makes the car feel slightly quicker. I could carry the old exhaust with two hands, but the Larini I could pick up with one, easily.

All the performance cars I have ever owned, I always change the standard exhaust - E46 M3, 997S, 360, AMV8 - the factory unit is often too heavy and massively restricts the sound.

Post 2011 it's the 5A fuse F15 in the boot, pre 2011 it's F22.

I did a test yesterday, I borrowed a sound meter and did the typical track day noise test.

I have a 2012 V8 S

1m 45° 4,5000 RPM

With fuse F15 in 90 dbA

With fuse F15 removed 100 dbA

The S exhaust is different than the standard one is I beleive it louder.

Also I checked the Swiss type certifcate and it I understand it correct the stanard (I think drive by) is 92 db.
