From what i have read it is only a matter of time before i get affected , my question is ... as the general consensus of opinion seems to be that this issue is caused by a gas generated by the different metals around the door lock and door panel , how do they stop this problem re occurring in the future ? or does it mean constant re painting over the life of the vehicle ? and why is it that if this is a known issue with many years history why is the problem still occuring on new cars ?
I think i may have answered my own question here , but any comments welcomed

I think not. This is not as widespread a problem as it appears from reading internet postings. I wouldn't worry about.

Mine is approaching 4 years old and jsut starting to bubble on both doors right next to the handle.

Without a warranty how much does it cost to fix?

ask the question at your dealers...i know of cases where Aston have agreed to pay up to 50% in some cases of the bill..

Aston paid 80% contribution to sort out the bubbling on my four and a half year old DB9. Cost me £130. Go to your dealer and get them to take a photo and send to AM for approval.

Galvanic reaction occurs where aluminium and steel meet - these areas should have paint/lacquer between them but if not enough got in there during manuafcture, you get the oxidation reaction.

So it won't happen to every car by any means and if it's corrected properly won't occur again.

Much of the car is aluminium skinned so where it meets bits of steel like hinges, handles and the side strakes, the area can be affected.

Both my door handles needed repainting, take it to your dealer, the standard reply is they ask you to pay 50%,however stick to your guns!!!!!! I paid NOTHING !!!!!!. The paint has a 10 year warranty, as long as there are no chips which caused the problem, you have a case to claim for repairs F.O.C.....!!!!

Bottom of the doors, towards the front of the car.

I also understand that acid/grease from hands when touching bare metal can cause a reaction in the future. AM paid 30% of bill to respray the driver's door and bonnet on my 05MY DB9. I think a lot depends on support from a main dealer.

I think that they had a 'manual handling issue' in the factory, with certain areas getting moisture on them
