Always used to own Porsche, now considering switching to a V8 (2006-2007). Seems like you can get a decent one for around £35k.
I will most likely sell it after a year so trying to estimate rough depreciation. Is 10% too optimistic? Rather closer to 20%?

Can't answer your question exactly but you are one of many looking for this kind of thing at the mo so be quick. It must be the weather. I would try to get nearer £40k if you can as it will get you IMHO a much better car. Assuming interest this time next year is the same perhaps 10% is not too far away. Good luck with your search.

The early cars are slowing but your buying at the wrong time of the year, as the weather improves the prices firm up.

Frippe,

I paid around that for my 55 plate (24,000) V8V this time last year.

It came with a gap in the service history , the last owner had hardly driven the car , the last service had been done almost 3 years before i bought it. The car had only done 5,000 miles since the last service.
I still don't really understand why the previous owner didn't service it.....BUT it was a great bargaining tool when i finally bought the car.

I had the car fully checked over by Aston Martin (HWM), bought it , serviced it , it's been a pleasure to own for the last 12 months and has since cost me 2 replacemnet rear tyres and a sensor.

Privately i would hope to get back very close to what i paid for it.....I want a roadster now smile

I did what you are talking about doing. I bought a 07MY car in Nov 2010 and sold it a year later. I lost over 20% in that time, having said that I bought from a main dealer so always knew it was going to drop a lot.

Now starting to wish I had never sold it, I guess in part as the warmer weather is perhaps on the way.

I now find myself looking at V8 adverts again, but am trying to stop myself, I can't be stupid twice, at least that is what my financial adviser tells me!!

Now looking at a BMW Z4M Coupe, hoping it will give me enough thrills at a lot lower cost, but you just can't beat the whole AM feeling.............

if you buy from a dealer and sell back to one then its gonna cost you 10% each time minimum

get a cheap deal from a motivated private seller and then keep it in good nick, you shouldnt lose too much come resale if you are not in a rush to sell

Hi Frippe,

I bought my 56 plate (my07) V8V almost exactly a year ago for just shy of £41k. Now looking to potentially go Roadster, I've been told it'll retail for around 37k and trade at £34.5k ish.

So, in my case, around 10-15%. Saying that, I have only put 6k miles on it in said 12 months and have added some tasty bits such as N400 sills and clear lights which visually brings it up to date.

Worst case scenario is that it has cost me just over £500 per month, which is cheaper than leasing smile

Hope this helps. I could be the aformentioned 'motivated seller', so PM me if you do get closer to purchasing / want any info.

Cheers,
Adam

I bought my 06 V8V 13 months ago privately for £38k with 22k miles on the clock. It's been the best second hand purchase I've made and I'd be confident of getting at least £35k for it now (not that it's for sale) with 27k miles. That's less than 10% depreciation in a year and I can only see the depreciation curve flattening on these 6 year old cars going forward. I'd think you'd struggle to do 10% paying a dealer premium though.

Thanks for all the replies, very helpful. AS a rough summary looks like a 10% is doable without dealer and 20% with dealer, with some luck there is upside to those numbers but better to plan for the worst.

Now i just need to convince myself that the move to AM is the right one, need a few more test drives wink

Getting an Aston Martin is not something you need to convince yourself about - its something you have to convince yourself you can be without if you don't buy one.... and trust me its hard ... 5 months out now back in nothing else ticks all the boxes quite like an aston ...

Well i now have 2 of them !!

I just purchased a V8V Roadster today on an 08 plate.

It's also Tungsten with Black interior , I like the colour smile

Seats could do with a little TLC - Any recommendations in Surrey / Hampshire ?

Also have been offered some DBS clear lenses for the car. Does anyone have a photo of clear lenses on a Tungsten Roadster ( or if not then a Coupe ) ? Do the lenses need to be fitted by AM ? An ideas on the fitting cost ?

Cheers,
'A very very happy' Nick

I tend to agree, I did sell my one, but now starting to think I made a big mistake. I have test driven a few other cars since selling (all cheaper cars than my Aston) in an attempt to do the sensible thing. Nothing comes close to the feeling of driving the Aston in real world situations. I miss the smell, the sound etc.

Once you have experienced it, there is no going back, as I have found to my cost. So be warned, if you buy and plan to sell a year later, don't underestimate how hard it is (unless of course you are going into some other exotic motor).

Congrats on the roadster smile
Here's a pic of my Tungsten coupe with clear lights:

I was quoted 2 hours labour when I was looking at them. Ended up doing it myself and it took about that amount time (albeit with two of us), and was a relatively easy install.

Adam,

Thanks, they look very smart on your Tungsten car.

I think my mind is made up , now just need to find a mate who'd be able to help !

Any software updates required after clear lenses were fitted ? Sounds daft I know , but it wouldn't surprise me !

Any other hints ?

Cheers,
Nick

Rude not to wink
They are an easy fit with a bit of patience to get the alignment right
I think they look great on the silver/grey cars

Hi, All That Gleams in Guildford have done some work on Astons and I am planning to have my paint corrected by them when I've got some time booked at home. Might be worth giving them a shout.

Cheers

Pretty sure they are the same lights, Mr K....? smile

On the ECU front, from what I know the new you won't get the warning light on the dash if one of your lights fails with the new lights, without a reflash, but I could be wrong.

I have done without it for the 6 months I've had the lights and will just get it done when I next have the car serviced.

I've been told today that the DBS clear lenses don't fit the Vantage unfortunately.

Whoever told you that needs their head examined... As you can clearly see form the pictures above they fit perfectly - and considering every new car comes with them standard now and that half the people on this forum have them, I think it's pretty safe to say you won't have a problem with them smile
