DBR9 Racer!

Aston Martin reveal their awesome looking Le Mans racer

Aston Martin Racing has revealed further details of its all-new DBR9 that will spearhead the marque’s return to international motor racing in 2005.

The new GT racing car, which is based on the latest Aston Martin production sports car, DB9, is being prepared by Aston Martin Racing’s partners, Prodrive, based at Banbury, UK. Prodrive is responsible for the design, development and management of the DBR9 racing programme.

The first DBR9 is being prepared now and will compete during 2005 in selected international sports car events, including the Le Mans 24 Hours! Three Aston Martin Racing Works teams will then be appointed to compete in major international sports cars series. These will be independent teams each racing two DBR9s with the full factory support of Aston Martin Racing.

Aston Martin Racing will also make a very limited number of DBR9 racing cars available to selected customers. These cars will be prepared to the same specification as the Works cars.

"The design of DB9 lends itself to be translated perfectly into the DBR9 race car," said Jeremy Main, Aston Martin’s Director of Product Development & Motorsport. "While DBR9 has been planned for outright performance, every surface sculpture and design detail has been developed to the same high standards as our road cars."

Simple. The new boss is an ex Porsche man. Dr Ulrich Bez, do a google search on him.

I beg to differ... it started in 1961
ok , so they did go a bit wrong in the eighties

1961 DB4GT Zagato
IMO one of the most stunning cars ever built.

I agree - the old cars were gorgeous However, compared to the last few cars (which admittedly weren't exactly ugly - apart from the 80's Lagonda ) the new models are, IMO, even better.

She has very good and very very expensive taste then!
They only made 19 and a mint example would be worth in the region of $3mln.

5 stud wheels and big door mirrors? Doesn't look like a racer to me.

Absolutely stunning though.

Yup, it is indeed my all time favourite. The shape is the most stunning piece of design I've seen. Maybe one day if I win the lottery.....

I'll say. They appear to have also "lost" about 2-foot on the wheelbase, max'd the wheel diameter, probably not a legitimate/workable front splitter....etc etc but yes I'm sure it'll look a lot tlike this (ie DB9 with Prodrive 550 cooling & vents).

...can I have a team please.

It is a true beauty. What a piece of automotive history! I'm not even sure that there are any still racing in the AMOC series - Clifford Chance used to run one (I think)....
