Have just been looking at the specifications for the 2013 model V8 Vantage, and see that this now incorporates styling features and suspension upgrades from the current Vantage S model. It also has the new improved Sportshift gearbox. I don't see any equivalent forward movement on the 2013 Vantage S.

Apart from the 10 bhp power upgrade, can anyone explain why you would now buy an S at £95k over a standard 2013 car at £85k?

You'd need to specify the sportshift gearbox as the price you quote is for standard manual, so that closes the gap a little. I imagine the latest V8 has the Garmin sat nav in although the article I read about it didn't specifically say so. Are the wheels different on the S?
Apart from that it's difficult to see what extra you get for your money - I suppose the extra 10bhp and the S model badge may sway some. I'd see what discounts were applied to each if I had a choice, and take it from there.

If you are going to put any kind of spec on the 'non-S', you may as well buy an S, unless you want manual. Sat nav and a few techy things are extra
on the non-S, as is the 7 spd gearbox. V12 styling front & rear is in plastic - it's 4k to have it in CF like the S. Those 3 things alone make up the price difference

Factor in better exhaust, 10 bhp more and a few other styling things & it's a no brainer. But if you want manual, dif story.

Isn't it a bit 'Virage v DB9' again and basically they are just stopping to bother with the older model because who's going to buy it over an S so a bit of part-sharing to cut manufacturer costs?

Different intake for slightly more power
Different suspension
Different alloys
Interior details
V12 boot spoiler on coupe
Also much ofh te 2012 standard spec changs is the addition of parts from the S as options wink
I reckon by the time you spec up a standard car close S spec it would cost you more than an S.
Much like they did with N420 rolleyes

Nothing to see here methinks.

Marketing focused at putting cheap Dealer cars on the forecourt for quicker sales.

Spec your own car.....and watch the prices rise accordingly.

I think it's a bit of a shame that the original V8 design can no longer be had. They all look great, but IMO, the original design -- nose, tail and sills -- is the prettiest of all the Vantage variants.

+1

In fact would be nice to have a brand new 'cheap' version with the original exterior (especially if it could be made lighter), but with the internal hardware improvements including the 7 speed.

+ another 1. Every step away from the original is a step in the wrong direction.

I suspect you can.

Checking the Aston web site it says;
"Optional Carbon fibre body pack (front splitter and rear diffuser)"
I'd presume this refers to the V12 & S bumpers as optional replacements

Mikey,

I think the "new" V8V has, as standard, the same splitter and defuser design as the V8VS and the V12V, but made from some sort of plastic -- not carbon fiber. The press release says the new model "has received a number of styling changes inspired by the Vantage S and N400 limited edition. At the front a lower bumper – complete with aerodynamic splitter – houses a larger air intake that feeds the engine and front brakes. At the rear a diffuser creates added drama and function, while sculpted race-derived side sills complete the V8 Vantage’s more muscular look." I get the impression that the option you refer to is to the have the splitter and defuser made in carbon, as it is on the V8VS and the V12V.

Also, the press release calls it the "2012" Vantage, not the 2013... Seems a bit odd.
