Just looking at potential interest for an Aston only VMAX day as I have been in contact with Craig @ www.vmax200.com who has expressed an interest in arranging a day for us.

Basically it is a top speed run on a 2 mile runway for anyone interested in trying to do the cars top speed. I have been invited to an event, but would prefer to meet up with others off here for a blast. Craig may post here also as I have said that a number of us on here may be up for it.

Let me know interest and I can forward details onto Craig. Checkout the site for more info.

Hi Michael

If we get enough interest, then we get our own day. If not then there are general days that can be entered and I will send your details to Craig.

Sadly the first outing that would appeal is 28th April and that co-incides with teh NW meet in Wales.

I reckon it would take nearly 2 miles to get to top speed. Hope your brakes are good.

Carbon Ceramic on a V12V....... so yes smile

I am not 100% sure, but you may get a bit of a rolling start onto the straight.

Much more than 2 miles. 7 miles might do it.

I'm not sure an Aston only day would be that much fun. Part of the enjoyment of VMAX is the variety of fast cars and exchanging passenger rides.

A V8 Vantage was shown at 172 on their site, so that is fairly close to top speed quoted by AM.

That's the Vantage S Roadster. It's meant to have a top speed of 190mph.

My 4.3 V8V topped out at 160mph through the radar at VMAX and was still accelerating. I know it will get to 175mph (it's claimed top speed) eventually as I've nearly had it that fast on a German autobahn.

It is not advertised where it is in advance, but there are more than the 1 venue wink. You have to apply in advance and then you are advised nearer the time. No spectators other than your passenger either.

I have done this at RAF Marham before with another car club.

I'll have a punt at it, but hoping that Bamford Rose can remove the 165mph limit that a Volante has!

I've come near to that several times already, don't think I'd need 2 miles for it...

Did they re-design the roof when they removed the limiter for the 07+ cars? I thought the reason it was limited was due to a risk of the roof shredding? Presumably when you have all the upgrades you will be able to crack 200, would you do it with the roof up or down? It would be more aerodynamically stable with the it up, but is it worth risking the roof?

My understanding was that they just removed it after further testing and endless mockery, I didn't think there had been a redesign! I will check with BR tomorrow.

My feeling would be to do it with the roof down for that reason. I think I could do with a bootlid lip though like the DBS Volante. Worst case I buy the Khan strip and paint it... Sure it'll have the power to pull that speed, not sure it'll have the stability though. I don't have a splitter, diffuser or spoiler. It'd be a worry.

You only need to drive foot to the floor in a straight line. I can't imagine you'd get much lift, not enough to unsettle the car anyway.

My guess is you'd see 180mph through the radar in your DB9 after your mods.

There's been a Merc SL600 that went fast roof down (well over 180 mph) and didn't have a problem.

There's quite a lot of stopping distance so braking from these speeds is not an issue. Although the end of the runway at Brunters is used by some manufacturers to store new cars, so sometimes you have to shoot through the rows of parked cars at the end which adds an extra thrill. wink
