URGENT: waiting for recovery, where to go for new clutch? South east
Discussion
Hi,
After 3weeks of non driving, my first drive has been cut quite short - everything running, gear selection working but no drive. My inexpert diagnosis concludes that it's my turn for catastrophic clutch failure - 32k miles, of which I've done about 2k seems par for the course.
So, I'm sat in the car with hazards on waiting for recovery, but not sure where is the closest independent you folks would recommend. I'm not far from the godstone m25 junction. My default will be where the car came from, Stratstone Amersham, but would welcome suggestions for alternatives.
Thanks in advance,
Phil
(surprisingly calm under the circumstances...!)

This could be really embarrassing:
I definitely had no drive in any forward hear. I depressed the clutch, selected each gear in turn, releases the clutch slowly and no drive. However, whilst sat waiting I've just tried reverse and I now seem to have drive back.
It felt like something released itself - any ideas what could have happened?
I'm a bit confused and very wary now of what could be about to break.

Tim Butcher, who I believe is also an area rep for AMOC.
Either the clutch was stuck in the open position so when you released it on the pedal, it was not releasing (unlikely) or perhaps the gear linkage cables?
It does not sound like clutch failure if you can move in reverse.
Whatever it is, good luck and hope it is something simple and inexpensive.

Firstly, thanks to those that replied with suggestions, much appreciated. I decided to send the car back to the dealer I bought from, as I'm not sure what's gone wrong now....
Following on from my post above, depressing the clutch and selecting reverse restores drive: the car goes backwards as it should, and then selecting first, it goes forwards...
So I was prepared for a bit of an embarrassing chat with Mr AA, who suggested I drove off and see what happens. The car was fine, accelerated in first without any noticeable clutch slip, but then changing gear to second killed the drive again. At this point, no other forward gears gave drive, the clutch felt fine, and the same tactic of depressing clutch and selecting reverse, then first restored drive.
This has me very confused - any ideas what could be wrong?
Thanks,
Phil.
