Discount Rapide
Discussion
Nah
He's comparing list price with a winter car market for a low demand model.
The UK doesn't want 4 door supper cars (BMW, Porsche, Maser & Merc's aren't flying out the show rooms either)
Now go to the Far East and it is completely the opposite!
They all want them.
That's were AM is making the money on Rapide's.

Its not really news
For more than 2 yrs now, most Astons have been available as un-registered new cars with decent spec at 15-20%+ off list. New, low miles & demo models then follow suit accrodingly, unless it's a car you want to spec up from scratch yourself and even then, discounts can be had, they are just smaller and less widely available
The AM price list is effectively meaningless. But as other cars in a similar arena such as Ferrari & Lambo have nil discount avilable & waiting lists, there is a tendancy to assume AM are in the same boat.
Providing people can get their head around the fact the published new list prices are meaningless and AM pricing works more like a mainstream car manufacturer than a high end sports one, the AM price/depreciation pattern is not a million miles away from most other cars and easy to understand

Which is great if you believe Aston are another BMW, Audi, Porsche etc.Providing people can get their head around the fact the published new list prices are meaningless and AM pricing works more like a mainstream car manufacturer than a high end sports one, the AM price/depreciation pattern is not a million miles away from most other cars and easy to understand
It's a shame they aren't more than that though...

It is supposed to be one of the most desirable brands on the planet - how have AM got into the position where they have to heavily discount cars? Or is that just in the West where the economy is not so good at the moment?

So is this down to AM making too many cars - supply and demand not being matched - or something to do with the cars themselves ( or potential buyers perception of the cars).

Sales up 14.5% on the same period last year, so it could just be a UK thing at this time of year. Had an email this week from one of the dealers offering brand new V8VR at under £80, choice of colours and transmission available, so its not just Rapide's.It is supposed to be one of the most desirable brands on the planet - how have AM got into the position where they have to heavily discount cars? It quite simply must be supply and demand. It is supposed to be one of the most desirable brands on the planet - how have AM got into the position where they have to heavily discount cars? Or is that just in the West where the economy is not so good at the moment?
I think Aston evidently predicated certain models on certain sales volumes. And that those volumes were unrealistic.
Isn't this something to do with the fact that production of the Rapide was outsourced at a time they thought they were going to have capacity problems at Gaydon.
This decision was made at a time when sales were booming and the contract presumably committed them to certain build numbers. I believe that contract has now been terminated so we will undoubtedly see supply and demand falling back into line.
BUT if your are in the market for a four door Aston then it represents fantastic value. I guess the question is how Aston, in the current economic environment, will be how to move the Rapide away from this price??

So given the new discounts, out of curiosity what would be a reasonable offer on a car like this? http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2011...
1 year old, 5,000 miles, decent all around and asking £100k.
