thanks for your thoughts gents....

I'm trying to establish whether its good value.. I know that very subjective.. I've been qouted £600 for 3 years cover...

It's not normally something I'd go for.. and can't decide whether its a bit of a scam... but it will ensure I get all of my money back in the event of a writr-off... hmmmm confused

I'm an Insurance Broker and I never buy it!!! However a couple of customers have found it very useful when their cars heve been written off. My understanding is though that some pay any o/s finance if the vehicle is worth less than the o/s amount and some will actually buy you a brand new car...so check

End of the day, the company selling the Gap insurance is making money but were something to happen to you it would save you money.

Every car I have bought it on I have never kept for 3 years! Also is it still valid if you change the wheels or exhaust? I just think that 2-3yrs down the line they'll always wiggle out of paying. Astons also depreciate less than other cars, if we're talking an older Vantage/DB9 then not worth it. For a new or nearly new car, might be money well spent as you'd just absorb it into the huge cost.

However, if you keep your car for 3 years, don't modify your car in the slightest and then stuff it into the wall totally writing it off, you could save money!!

I'll take my chances.

thanks all for your comments...

I have established the following..

1) the GAP insurance will payout provided the 'normal' policy does.. so modifications are ok as long as they're known about (will be checking this with the main policy provider too).
2) the fiance company will reduce the the interest rate marginally if GAP cover is provided thereby effectively reducing the net premium by 30%

So I'm going to take it... Thanks again for your thoughts and insights!!

Well I apologise for the assumption, but let me give you my reasoning behind my tongue in cheek comment

1. gap insurance offers really good profits for the dealer....and the idiots who take it out rarely check through other channels how much they can get it for .......most rich people are not idiots or they wouldn’t be rich (I accept not always the case)

2. gap insurance is more suited to people who take out high levels of borrowing when purchasing their Astons, which begs the question that they can’t really afford to buy the car......just afford the monthly repayments ......or rent as I like to call it

Furthermore if you had read my previous comments on this forum you would realise that I probably wrote your other 9 most stupid comments you had ever read….. so what’s your point ?

My point is, the the Poor people comment is rather rude, and not necessarily correct.....smile

I suppose that basically, I don't like people whom look down their noses at others

I've seen your list, and all it does is make me think, I hope I never bump into that chap at a meet........which is probably good news for the both of usbiggrin
