The good news is I am in a fortunate enough position to be able to get a V12 Vantage at the young age of 23....

The bad news is the Aston garage not only treated me like a complete worthless piece of crap when I went to enquire about a vehicle- due to my age obviously- and understandably I am not allowed to test drive the car at my age due to the insurance policy Aston has....

Therefore was wondering if any V12 Vantage owners would give me some feedback on the driving experience...

I have owned a 430 spider for a year and also have a 997 C2 which I have had for 3 years.

i loved the 430 spider but have been offered an incredible price on it and fancy a change so have been considering my options. Have thought of R8 v10 (little too ordinary), Gallardo (little too ostentatious), 997 turbo (would lose my license and not enough wow), 458 (pushing it price wise) or an Aston.

Has anyone driven a 430 regularly and then a V12... how do they compare? I much prefer the idea of a V12 over a DBS as a smaller less GT feeling car is definitely what I prefer.

Am looking for a 2009/2010 black/silver car for 80s... read its very much buyer market so going to make some cheeky offers when stuff comes up.

Thanks,

Andy

Well done. I wish I could have afforded an Aston when I was 23. I was at University and wishing I could win a poker or the lottery or something.

Surprised you couldn't get a drive - even using your own insurance?

I was able to get a test drive of a V8V in London when I was 22, have they seen your current car or evidence that you are a legitimate buyer? When I was doing my first drive a 19 year old was there driving a DBS Volante too.

I didnt try with my insurance... I will ring and ask them tomorrow.

Surely it is possibly to love cars and not demonstrate it though posting on an internet forum a lot...?

THey have evidence I owned a 430 spider, the salesman demanded to see a pic of my driving it in order to take my request for details of available V12 vantages seriously...

He then claimed 3 times that I wouldnt get insurance and probably hadn't been insured on the 430 properly... after 5-10 mins started to take me semi seriously... was worst service I have ever received.

Many of my friends are true car and bike nuts..... The only thing they use the Internet for is to buy parts....

Some have looked at PH and ran away fast....... I won't tell you what they thought of some of the posters and forums, but the word SAD came up quite a lothehe

Without shaming the dealer (against PH rules), what part of the country are you in? I'm guessing not London?

If you want to know what they are like there's a good thread running here:-

Ever so slightly jealous that you can afford a V12V at your age, but good luck to you, great position to be in.
You will find people on this forum a very helpful, with a helpful dose of piss taking.
Good luck with your search, if you buy one, we have one rule here- you have to post pictures!

I was in the car trade for a long time . I learned very early on not to judge people on age or appearance. I find your experience to date quite horrific. Who the Hell does that salesman think he is. There are any number of ways that you could have been professionally qualified.

Just one example, a young guy walked into the showroom (BMW) looking a little scruffy to say the least. He expressed interest in a new M3 (E36). We talked for a while, I asked him questions, we went for a drive, he did not want to demo the car. On our return I remember saying that I expected that he wanted a black M3 with no model inscription or rear spoiler. He agreed and then gave me a sustantial deposit on a fancy card. Turns out that unbeknown to me he was the local Lords son and had been treated with total lack of interest by other dealers.

Over a period of some 3 years he wrote off that car plus 2 others, his brother boght a 325 motorsport convertible which he wrote off. His father bought a 535 with a full Alpina B10 conversion.

I would so like to have met those salesmen!

My advice, persist in your hunt, the V12 Vantage is a fabulous car you just need to find a proper dealership. Try Rachel at Broughtons in Cheltenham.

Good Luck

Superb achievement Space, hope you get sorted. When you get it I suggest you take it to that dealer and show them what commission they missed. Best of luck with it.

Good luck with the purchase, did you go to the dealership in the Porsche? Surely they can't argue if you turn up in the car?

Well done to you for being in this position at 23! Have also heard many good things about Rachel at Boughtons - a good first stop for you hopefully.

All the best

This reminds of a very important lesson I learned approx 20 years ago.

To cut a long story short, a very young ordinary-looking Asian guy approached me for some very expensive work on a very expensive car. I didn't take him seriously but he pestered me into quoting him.

It transpired that he was the Crown Prince of Quatar who became a very good client.

Never again have I pre-judged anybody!

Isn't there something like car dealers judge by the watch/shoes rather than the appearance? Or something like that, I'm sure I've heard it somewhere.
