For a V8V

30
3 points
A claim last year...some old codger reversed into me when I was already reversing. Went down as 50/50.

Best I can do is £1500...

Admiral mulitcar got me the best quote for my V8VR:
Age 30
10 years NCB
No points - so far!
£630

I guess it depends where you live too, I'm in sleepy Hampshire with the car garaged overnight.

I'm pretty sure in saying that a claim on your insurance only removes 2 years of the NCB bonus built up though - no doubt someone will be along to correct me. It's why I think it makes such a mockery of the whole insurance debarcle that you can have a prang, that's your fault, but only lose 2 years... Personnally that's why I don't bother with paying the extra premium for "protecting" NCB as you still have to declare any accidents in the previous 5 years to any insurers.

Umm, I don't think £1500 is too bad actually in this day and age!

Have you tried Locktons, the AMOC insurer?

Hi Richales, I work in motor insurance and would recommend protecting your NCD when applicable. The simple reason for it is that you are half correct, if you make an at fault claim (i.e. when there is no other motor insurer to recoup the loss from) then you will automatically lose 2 years NCD unless it is protected. Now my first point is 'NCD' stands for No Claims Discount, it is a percentage discount from your original price due to to you having a proven track record of safe driving, I'm sure you can appreciate that any claim you make on an Aston Martin V8 will be far more costly than your premium at £630, and that is before we have considered any other property damage or injury.
You are right in thinking that any at fault claims you make will definately increase your insurance premium, whether you have protected your NCD or not, however should you have a protected NCD then your premium will still be discounted by your NCD percentage amount.

2 drivers, exactly the same details, both make a claim, both wait for their renewal...

Driver 1 with Protected 5 years NCD: Premium rises from £600 to £1000, however due to driver 1 having protected his 5 years NCD we discount his premium by 50% so the price he pays is £500.

Driver 2 with unprotected 5 years NCD: Premium rises from £600 to £1000, however drive 2 loses 2 years NCD from his 5, which now drops to 3 years NCD so we now discount his premium by 30% so the price he pays is £700.

BTW figures are not specific with regards to NCD/Discounts, just easy head maths for myself smile

I hope this helps with any future insurance purchase (Obviously it works the same way with home, business, health, etc etc etc)

If you have any further insurance related questions then please feel free just to ask, I'm happy to give honest advice

With Admiral also get your Mum insured on the policy as well - saved me an extra £200 or so when I was insuring in my early 30's.

Well, best I got was £1246 with admiral. This was when parking in my locked garage over night.
My quote dropped to £946 when I parked it on my drive! Go figure!

Happy with that now.

Locktons were £1400

Try parked on the street. That's usually even less, something to do with the house being less identifiable for theives to break in and steal the keys.

That's insane! So if your car gets nicked out of your garage do you have to falsify the report and say that it was on the street?!

Yes, it's called insurance logic; some computer decided so (but to be fair it has statistics and history to go by).

I'm still stuck with Admiral but looking to jump elsewhere as soon as I can; for what it's worth the quote from Chubb (best from a broker) is still 410% that of Admiral frown

After having a great time on a group policy for 7yrs, my renewal premium was hiked by 50% this time round (yesterday)!

Bit of shopping round and now have 3 policies covering 4 cars. Aston is now with Locktons (Chubb). 860 a year. 9pts, 41. Sleepy rural location. They don't bother themselves with NCD (no claims in 8 though). 5k miles - first time I've gone with limited miles.

Overall premium for all cars is now 20 quid less than last year.

Remember sMurph, Locktons don't give you cover for driving other vehicles, except in limited circumstances.

I can't believe you are only 41 biggrin
