Ignition / Boot Release
Discussion
Hello all,
Looking to find out if anybody else has had a similar issue to mine before. Since yesterday morning, the boot release button on the back of my V8VR has stopped working. To make matters more annoying, turning the key in the ignition to start the car now releases the boot lid meaning I have to get out and shut it again before driving off. Very annoying!
Anybody seen this before?

Seriously, though, I suspect that the switch is faulty and stuck on. That means that when you turn the ignition on it activates that circuit, thinks you want to open the boot and obliges you.
That is very possible.Might also be worth giving the car a "deep power down" using the boot power off switch if pre 08. Much in the same way as <Ctrl><Alt<Del> on some other crappy bits of technology.
I've never done it and I think you may need to reset the seat and mirrors after waking it up again. Some of those are covered in the FAQ.

Unfortunatley the old DMS links are no more

That is bizarre.
If you slam the door, does it fall off and the wipers start?

no thankfully just the boot lid!If you slam the door, does it fall off and the wipers start?

My thinking is along similar lines to yours. I'm going to have a poke around tomorrow and see if I can work out what's going on. If not, it's off to the dealer next week for fixing!

Try a squirt of wd40, worked for my sticky fuel flap release
Thanks for the suggestion - has got to be worth a try!peterr96 said:

I'll try this tomorrow and see how I get on.V8LM said:
I had a Range Rover Sport that did this; faulty boot catch micro switch (not been driving in the salt have you?).
It did get a bit salty Friday morning (but my obsession with having it clean mean't it was sorted by the evening!) so it could theoretically be some water in the switch.V8LM said:

The 'smart' electronics give up opening the boot after so long. Come to start the car, everything resets and the boot opens.
Maybe the same issue.
+1 my last roadster did something similar dealer cured it with a new microswitchThe 'smart' electronics give up opening the boot after so long. Come to start the car, everything resets and the boot opens.
