Having heard many stories about corrosion on the Astons, has anyone sprayed the undercoat and/or individual panels with an anti-corrosion product?

I've seen many products online but not sure which one would be suitable for these cars and whether it would be a DIY or a specialist job.

Thanks

Gio

Which models are you talking about? Presumably older models?

Modern AMs have an extruded aluminium bonded chassis, with composite, aluminium and carbon fibre body panels. There's not a whole lot to rust on them.

It's really a specialist job as you need the vehicle up in the air to mask off suspension/exhaust parts etc. When the underside is clean, dry and any corrosion treated we have used 3M Amber Cavity Wax.

Hope this helps?

It's a 2010 Vantage, but having read through this forum, i can see many cars with corrosion problems, so just to be on the safe side.

The corrosion seen on Gaydon cars is due to galvanic reaction which happens when aluminium and steel are juxtaposed together. If AM didn't get paint or laquer in between them, it starts to oxidise. Happens around the door handles and apparently where the grille bar is on the side vent.

Hard to protect against, as it isnt caused by external elements, chances are if it hasn't happened to your car it might not be going to happen now?

My 2006 is perfect, never had the issue.

Yeti, thanks for the comments. However, the reason i'm worried about corrosion is because i moved abroad for 4-5 months. Car is stored in a garage but that's only 50 meters from the beach (sea water). Not the best thing for corrosion.

I've already bought a dehumidifier but i thought it would be a good idea to check all possible options.

Gio,

The corrosion and wax treatments that I was explaining was really for a steel chassis or bodied vehicle i.e DB7. As James said there's not a whole lot to rust underneath the new era cars.

the paint bubbling is not a "corrosion" issue, its just bad paint prep...the paints not bubbling because theres rust under it

theres nothing much to rust on the modern Aston, its mostly aluminium and composite with the odd steel panel

Is this actually on the door panel itself or on the handle - the bit you push in to open Door? My V8 is MY 2010 and nothing is apparent, but I'd like to know what to keep an eye open for bearing in mind it's the last yer of warranty smile

Anybody got any pics of their car suffering from this they'd be willing to put up?

I've recently had mine corrected and don't have any pictures unfortunately.

However, it was a small patch 0.5 cm x 0.5 cm of what appears to be bubbling paint. It was cracking and looked like a rust spot without any discolouration evident. It was on the door panel itself next to the handle.

This is not covered by the anti-perforation corrosion paint warranty which lasts 10 years and Aston Martin do not accept liability for this issue (feature!) As a gesture of goodwill however they did offer to pay for 70% of the repair. Which left me paying around £250.

The repair was all arranged through a Main Dealer who liaised with Aston Martin and I have to say that the work was excellent! I should add that I have a MY07 Vantage and the issue first appeared at around the 4 year point.

Good thread Gio - it's got a few of us taking a surreptitious look around our door handles when we think nobody's looking whistle
