This month's Evo runs a test alongside the Bentley Continental GT, Merc SL55AMG and Porsche 911 Turbo....and the DB9 doesn't do too well.

Even the journos are a bit perplexed as they loved the 9 on launch, but say it's not so good (ride/steering) on UK roads. Weird!

Even more weird is the fact that Autocar tested the same DB9 against the new 997 Porsche this week. Whilst they claim "the Porsche is the better car" they don't single out the areas for critism that Evo do.

Still, as far as I'm concerned, the DB9 could be powered by a hairdryer and still beat the others hands-down on looks alone

Evo do like the "performance pack" on the revised Vanquish though.

I'd be interested to see Aston's official responce. (could it be a rogue car?)

I too was surprised to read Evo's findings, and I do consider them to be reasonably authorative on road tests.

However, a couple of points that I would take issue with is the fact that they seem to come down a bit too hard on the DB9. They criticise the other 3 cars, but not as harshly for similar things. They state that the SL55 hasn't got the best steering, but then almost dismiss it. And, sorry, but no way has a 996 got usable back seats!! I've never had a grown adult in the rear of any 911.

Having now covered a good few hundred miles in the DB9, I find it to be among the greats. It's better than a 996, Ferrari 360 and SL in my opinion, and yes I found the steering very different to the DB7, but it is more direct. If anything I would say it was a little light and not heavy as they suggest.

The suspension is firmer than the DB7's, but again, the body control is fantastic, another area Evo criticised.

But all in all, these are just the opinions of individuals, which we are all entitled to. I personally love the DB9, just as I loved the DB7 before it despite that car's shortcomings. This is a gigantic step for Aston Martin and it bodes well for the forthcoming Vanquish S and the AMV8.

I've done about 800miles in mine now. I can't fault it. IMO the steering is just right. It does firm up nicely above 150 as well

Is the DB9 simply just not "Evo" enough for EVO?? I adore the car by the way and after seeing a lot of pictures of the car in the mags can honestly say I cannot see any bad/indifferent angles. It actually looks...perfect. Can it be so?

After much deliberation my choice (after not having driven any of these cars) would be:-

1. DB9
2. 996 Turbo
3. SL55 AMG
4. Continental GT.

Congratulations on your choice of motor, Shady.

Whatever anyone writes, the DB9 is still my current favourite/most desirable new car on sale by a long way.

Just need those number's to come up
