Hi all,
Getting closer to my decision re: Vantage purchase, have seen a couple I like the look of, including one @ Stratstone for about £50k - can you knowledgable folk shed any light on the sort of deals I am likely to get? I would ideally like a 2nd year of warranty, my next service paid for and full year's tax & full tank of fuel! Is this out of scope for a car / dealer like this - what have others managed - or am I more likely to get a discount off the price & if so what should I be aiming for?

I know all dealers / cars are in different situations but I'd be interedted to get any feedback please.

Good luck with your first purchase, there is bound to be a perfect combo out there for you. In terms of deals I believe that Stratstone in particular has a lowest advertised price, no discount approach to their used stock. Whether that holds true is another matter. The other items that you mention represent quite a list, I would focus on the sticker price first and allow the dealer to offer some of the items you mention to close any remaining gap. Stratstone sales guys have very little room for manoeuvre by way.

I bought from stratstone about a year ago, similar price. I was able to get a few very small things thrown in, but no discount on price at all. Had to pay full price for 2nd year warranty and even first service was only able to negotiate 20% off (which they wouldn't honour if I brought my own oil)
They explained to me their policy on discounting and said that they didn't think they were the right dealer for me if I was looking for a discount on the sticker price!! (even letting me walk out)
In the end I bought there as they were the cheapest main dealer price and had the car I wanted. They may have changed given the economy is in a worse position now than it was, so always worth trying though...

For what it's worth I bought in October from grange , and had the lowest priced like for like car on the official Aston used list. They moved another 5k + off this price . I wad happy with a few extras chucked in like full gas etc . Never had dealings with Stratstone but I think there are deals to be done out there

I bought my first from Grange Exeter. I haggled in the sticker price, then presented a snag list of 23 items and got all of them done in the price.
The list included new tyres, geometry, rear bumper respeay, wheels refurbed.
Dealer are very focused on the sticker margin, giving you extras is easier for the sales guy to hide and cost them less than you accept as the value.

What deal you can get depends largely on how willing you are to walk out. When I bought my car it was the only one available, I had to pay full price or lose the only manual Volante for sale. I'd suggest your list of wants is nothing short of ridiculous but good luck smile It isn't a Hyundai where servicing and warrnty costs the same as a bag of chips. Tank of fuel though... yeah, why not wink

If you want a grey Vantage with black leather, you can go to any dealer anywhere and play them agaist each other. That's the only way you'll get a deal I think, as deperate as the economic situation is, they're not *that* desperate. If you want anything unusual or you don't have several dealers closeby, or of you don't have a LOT of time, you might be stuck.

However, good luck and I hope you get one. They're terrifica cars, all of them smile

I’d agree with the other guys comments it will depend on a number of things... is the car special i.e. extras/uncommon colour.. are you prepared to walk away and at what point? A mate of mine used to work for Stratstone and I believe they don’t have a lot of margin in the sticker price but as Mikey K says they can throw other stuff in.... but probably not all the stuff you have requested. What about an Independent?.... What car colour/spec are you looking at?

Fair comment! I don't expect to get everything on my list though, it's a wish list - I'm new to the Marque & dealers vary greatly by brand & some brands have been hit harder than others by the current economic situation.

I would actually rather deal with a business that is low margin and no discount as that way I know I am paying the right price. The point is Stratstone may have a service department & be able to give out a service at cost for example, I'm just getting a feel for what is realistic / likely / possible. A 1 year warranty extension would be nice but if noone has ever got one then it's a non starter, hence the question to you guys.

On another topic - what standard of spec / paintwork / valet do Stratstone prep their cars to - any experience?

Caveat Emptor - check the paintwork yourself and make rectification of any issues you find a condition of the sale - BEFORE you agree the deal.

Happy to be corrected but I believe Stratstone don't do bodywork/paint in house, so anything beyond touching up paint chips would cost them money and no dealer is going to be too enthusiastic about putting their hand in their pocket once a deal has been done! smile

10% below ask and they should take your hand off, or walk away

Couldn't agree more. I learned this to my cost.

A nicely topical thread as I spent some time at Stratstone on Saturday looking at V8V Roadsters

They gave me their standard " no discounts" on sticker price but then qualified it slightly by saying that if I could find a broadly comparable car ( not neccessarily in the main dealer network) then there might be room for movement. A reasonable approach I thought

So I dont think its really about discounts,if the price is competitive then why would they discount it? They could overprice & then discount so people feel they ve got a deal but the end result is the same.

Probably the best answer on the thread then! So the motto is, do your homework forst, and find all the cars you like.

Spice, 10% or walk away... I think you might find yourself walking away a lot wink

I've got a fairly good handle on some of the manual roadsters around the dealers if anybody is looking to buy and wants a heads up on any info I've managed to find.

Best service/conversation/follow up I have to say has come from Alex and Mel and the Tyne and Wear Stratstone, tell em, Max said you'd find me a good car!
