Sadly my Wife doesn't use her DBS V.

It's now 13 months old and its only done 600 miles and I reckon I've done 500 of them

I agree....a very sad waste of a great car. I removed it from the garage a month ago and she hasn't got a clue.

The reason I write this is that I've just been to my local and seen a few "USED" examples there where people have actually used them and enjoyed them........Very envious

No doubt some kind soul will offer to drive it for you. smile

Your own car must be pretty special if your wife has a DBS and you can't be bothered to drive that...

I don't have any problem with the car not being used. It's a beautiful object in its own right, even stationary.

However, it's also a very competent sports car. If you enjoy driving, and you're not specifically trying not to use the car, then perhaps you should be out in it more. After all, you only live once and you can't take it with you.

One of the problems of not driving the car enough is that you never really get to know what it can do and you'll always be afraid to push it a bit. So even when you do drive it, you'll only be using 30% of it's abilities.

A crying shame - I drive my V8V every chance I get (which is pretty much only on w/ends).

...I like to get my moneys worth out of my cars, and tend to put + 50K or +100K miles on them before I sell them ...so yeah, I use mine...it used to be a daily driver for the first couple of years and soon racked up 35K miles, then the last few years its been one of a few cars in the family and only done about 5K miles a year...its still over 60K miles, but it is 6 years old now

...jeez, Id find it hard to justify pwning such a depreciating asset that I dont use or enjoy *that* much ...even at 5K miles a year I ask myself if its really worth insuring/servicing/throwing away depreciation just to sit in the garage

so can we assume that you and your wife dont drive a lot and when you do drive have so many nice cars to choose from the Aston stays at home ? frown

what is she driving when she goes out? something more practical ?

Yeah I know its a crying shame. It's locked away in the garage and it truly is a thing of beauty.

I personally cover about 25k a year running around but tend to use my Truck and in the summer other stuff.

My Wife doesn't go far, only shopping and stuff. For that she has an E90 M3 or an SL55 so there is no shortage.

If I'm honest I think I'd like to get behind the wheel and really get to know the car but i bought it for her. She does love the car but doesn't want it to get ruined and finds it far easier to jump in something else and far safer if only going to Tesco.

I was looking at Used DBS coupes earlier at the local thinking I really fancy one to hoon around in....simply ridiculous I know.

I not looking for any miracle answers here just wondered if anyone else here just looks at their Aston.

Vpr - don't worry too much as you not caused harm to it, per se.
Continue to use it as you see fit and when you can, after all, it's your possession!

I struggle when mine is away even though I have plenty of others to drive. I smile every time I walk past the Marcos, I always peep round the corner at the Alfa, but the Dee Bee Nine is the only one I just stare at and marvel it's mine.

Have reacquainted myself with the 911 over the past week, damn it's good and is a great place to be, roof down, heated seats on a sunny winters day. But it's not the same...

Nothing I'd rather drive than the Aston, I have to force myself to drive the others or I'd do 25k/yr in it! It'll do Monte Carlo in April and Le Mans 24 in June, the others get Monte Carlo in Feb, Classic Le Mans, Revival etc. feel like I'm throwing them scraps and they're all fine cars!

Lots of people buy these cars and just look at them. Generally when it comes to selling they are viewed as garage queens and will be marked down.

If you can afford this sort of problem then life is sweet. Rock on!

You obviously love your cars and we can see you have plenty of interesting stuff to choose from but your wife is obviously scared to use this car and it's a crying shame that it's going to waste in the garage.

Get it out and use it yourself - or Lady Topas & I will come round and show her how it's done wink If she was interested in Astons she would be on this forum now!!

maybe the answer is to book on some touring holidays with Petrolhead Nirvana, and take the missus to share the driving...in her DBS wink

..actually we did one a few years back and argued over which car to take, so ended up in 2 cars on our own LOL

Actually that's not a bad Idea.

Our local has a run out to Beaulieu in Feb, they have around 30 cars so far.

I don't think it matters if you use it or not, as long as you get enjoyment out of it. If you feel comfortable letting a fantastic car which you have go to waste, then what does it matter?

I don't use the DB9 as much as I could, it's only covered 5300 miles in 2 years, but I love it nonetheless. I clean it every week and get a little bit of enjoyment out of that, extremely sad I know. When I do drive it, it feels like a special occasion. I love that, and wouldn't want to use it all the time for that very reason.

If I had the money for my dream car - an Aston V8 V600 LM, it wouldn't be driven, rather parked in my lounge so I could just look at it. I know a lot on here would disagree with that, but at the end of the day, it would be my money, I could do what I liked with it. smile

You are a lucky man (or your wife a lucky woman) to have such a beautiful car to look at it whenever you like (that e-type is stunning by the way). However for me there is nothing better than being behind the wheel of my Aston.

While they are a work of art, the drive & the sound do it for me; and smile is no wider than when it is being driven quickly smile. I know what you mean about the whole parking in a supermarket car park, but for me that is a waste of a stunning car, plus you are denying the rest of us from seeing it in the flesh. Roll on SPA on 17th September when I can drive mine properly.

As you are only in Kent I am sure Lady Topaz will arrange a meet soon and you can bring it out then smile
