Astons at Le Mans 24
Discussion
Inspired by the 'Speeding in France' thread posted by our beskirted blue chum, who's going to the 24 Heueres du Mans this year?
I am in my newly-engined wee timorous beastie though not sure how yet, have a couple of options and need to work out what's best for a chap on his tod.
Options are the Nick Mee (Club Tertre Rouge) trip which is pricey but worth it, but not necessarily suitable for a chap on his own. Or the Team Langoustine affair, cheaper and possibly more fun for a bloke on his own? But without the perks of the Nick Mee tour like the pre-race party...
Who's doing what this year?

Have you gone along with Nick Mee before? I would have thought it would be a good option 'tho, as you say, a bit pricey (particularly as the accomodation is less than glamorous). We are not going this time but I bet you will soon find plenty of others who are who would be happy to team up with you. You could start your own tour 'team' - Ami's avec Astons
I go every year and stay here with about 6-10 other lads.
It's about a 5 minute drive to the main gate, but is nice and quiet and run by an English chap. They have a full bar 24/7 and show the race on a big screen so you never miss any of the action - except when on the shuttle bus back and forth to the track or and of the other drop off points.

Club Langoustine is also supposed to be good. In fact, I've been trying to persuade some of the other guys to give it a go. Think one of our AM forum colleagues is something to do with it too.
Main thing is to try and avoid the hoards of stupid tt pisshead idiots who go there every year and pay no attention to the race. They're slowly but surely ruining Le Mans for the real fans

+1. The principal reason I don't go anymore, much prefer the Classic
I've been going since 2000; it got bad, then worse, then intolerable so I stopped for a few years but have started again and have been the last 2 years with great success. I just do different things now to the standard camping on Houx Annexe which was brilliant 10-12 years ago. Shame.Amanda, as a customer of Nick Mee's I got to join in with some of the stuff hence you saw me there, I was actually staying about 40miles away, just slightly too far to be fun but an amazing drive - just not when you have to do it all hours and can never have a glass of wine!
I might have the option of doing something via Bamford Rose /Team Langoustine so i will see what happens there. My preference is to go with Nick Mee but asi said, I'm not sure that 5 days on my tod will be that brilliant and I'm sick of paying for a friend to come every year, all my mates seem to be tightwads (or married with kids as they like to call it)!
I'll be doing the Classic as well naturally but I'll take the Alfa Romeo to that. Is there a prettier car? I will give you a clue, the answer is 'no'. And before anyone asks, yes it is modified with 160bhp engine, some decent brakes and a full Alfaholics sports exhaust

I'll be there, it being my stag weekend and all...

I would imagine I will do somthing similar if and when my time ever comes...
Please don't wear matching t-shirts with insulting nicknames you never use printed on the back

Yeti, when is it? I may be up for a long weekend there depending on dates.
Would you be camping, or a bit more civilised as I would expect from you, and in a hotel?
16-17 June is race weekend. I'll head down either Wednesday night on the overnight crossing from Portsmouth or Thursday morning from Dover - a MUCH longer drive, but that's no bad thing.Would you be camping, or a bit more civilised as I would expect from you, and in a hotel?
The Nick Mee trip puts you up in Gite type accomodation, basic but adequate, the team Langoustine... probably camping I think, but the good kind, i.e. clean showers and no s at a guess or not sure what they do..?
The Nick Mee trip doesn;t have details for 2012 yet, but the form will be the same for the 2012 affair http://www.clubtertrerouge.co.uk/ctrlm_2011.html Lots of exclusive stuff, lots of freebies but top dollar! But it's the way I'm leaning at the moment unless the Langoustine stuff via Bamford Rose is something different.
At Silverstone that weekend for MotoGP, Le Mans is on my list of things to do, so maybe next year. Will have got TT and Malaysian GP and MotoGP off the list this year, hopefully Le Mans and Bathurst next year.
I don't think I would go in the Aston to Le Mans though for a couple of reasons. Mainly because there would be 3 of us going, and secondly because of all the talk of complete bell ends going causing damage to others cars.
Also, I must pick you up on this:

Yes...it's called a caravan I'll stick to hotels I think
Guys. I run TL. Give me a call and I will let you know what we offer.
Although camping is a pain, I think we soften the edges enough. We are inside the circuit at tertre rouge, track access 30 mtrs from the marquee.
I am also an aston driving pistonheader.
