Coupe DBS and Spider 430 - is that the right way around?
Discussion
I'd say absolutely spot on for my preference, though I can see the other side of the coin - The F430 could be considered the uber-sports car and in need of a tin top and the Volante would provide the roof-down cruising of a big GT.
I'd have a Volante too as you can always put the roof up on a convertible, but you can't take it down on a coupe

That would be my way round on it. But personally I wouldn't have an F430, I was seriously unimpressed with the one I drove and they're ugly as sin. 360CS would be my choice

Realistically I should be able to find the money to get a 360 Spider manual to run alongside everything else in the next year. Never driven one but I know they're fast, my modified Maserati couldn't keep up in France. Can't see myself being disappointed and they are great value at £30k and change. F430 still a little on the high side for the next few years...
Just not sure about the *gulp* Ferrari image, especially a ragtop!

BTW Lewis, I've also driven a 360 spider and it was horrible. So much weight over the rear axle, it felt if the back end stepped out you would never get it back. The example I drove was not helped by the awful F1 gearbox. Great sound though.

May even need a custard test on this!
FWIW I'd rather have a convertible GT and a hard core coupe
Convertibles are not ideal for hooning or track days.

Thanks James, I know you have driven a LOT of cars! I wonder if the manual box would make it a nicer drive? I know it doesn't affect the weight distrbution but my manual 911 is a lot more hustleable than my old tiptronic one, being able to blip on downshifts and feather the clutch seems to stop the back feeling so twitchy when shifting as it's less jerky.

It isn't a great image in modern ones, have you not considered a nice older one - maybe a 328 or 348 convertible? I wouldn't say they came with a bad image. However I think it would be sacrilege if you 'yeti-fy' them! yeti said:

Don't worry, I'm not 14! I'll post a couple of pics when I get chance to. (BTW, 360's are great - had one of those before 430, shouldn't suffer depreciation if you keep it well).
Was there a huge step from the 360 to the 430 or did it feel more like an evolution? I know the 360 was the last use of the V8 dating back to the 308, but was the first to have VVT as opposed to the 355s 5-valve head. Wondered if that made it feel like the changes were smaller? DB7 to DB9 was not evolution, it was revolution! The bear no resemblance whatsoever.
