So, in my efforts to do more car related things in my V8V, I have planned a drive down to the Amalfi Coast for our summer hols. Currents thoughts are to go via Rheims, Geneva, Tuscany and then back via an alternate route over a two week period. However, open to suggestions - interested to hear about routes, hotels or experiences from anybody that has done a similar trip. Many thanks.

Not quite the route you are taking, but went Grenoble, Route Napolean (N85)to Cannes, Monaco, Lake Gards, Lake Como then up through italy & switzerland passes through Germany & Nurburgring, Brugge and home.

Happy to share the route and hotels.

+1 wink

Also a mate of mine runs a motorbike hire company based out of Rome in Italy and does tours, he spent a long time scouting out positively the best driving roads in the country, maps at the bottom of the pages:

http://www.cimt.it/heartofitalytour.htm

I've done a number of these roads and can vouch for the quality of potenital food stops on route...

When we visited the Amalfi Coast several years ago we stayed in Positano. I can highly recommend the Punta Regina Hotel there. Get a Superior Deluxe room. They have a huge terrace overlooking the Med.

Nah.

Stay in Sorrento, oggling all the cruise ships rolleyes then get the ferry over to Positano and Amalfi whilst listening to the captain blasting out his rendition of 'O Sole Mio'.

If you've not driven in this area before, it really is an eye-opener and, simultaneously, a white-knuckle ride smile

Thx for responses so far - I shall certainly be looking up the links. We're actually sorted when it comes to hotel on Amalfi Coast - Palazzo Sasso in Ravello. Heaven on earth where we'll do nothing more than chill out by their pool or beach area whilst nipping in to town to celebrate St Panteleone on 27th July with all the locals wink

Sorrento is around the headland / in the next bay from Amalfi. Drive or get the local bus. And before you start its the only time I will ever be spotted on a bus, but is hilarious.
and it obviously avoids Italians in charge of boats who reputedly are more interested in the ladies than rocks.
