Relevant to Astons if you ever consider storing one. My OH Tony emailed me today with this tale.

His business is on an industrial estate and opposite is a storage warehouse. Looking out of his window this afternoon he witnessed a Porsche GT4 being unloaded from a container. Once safely on terra firma, the warehouseman proceeded to hook the Porsche up to another vehicle to get it started.

He watched as having got it running the guy proceeded to thrash the car from cold giving it massive revs.

Now the warehouse guys daily drive is a ratty old Vauxhall. Very doubtful he has been this close to a Porsche before, but he proceeded to get into drivers seat ( LHD) and storm off the estate . He returned 20 mins later.

I really can't believe a storeman would be insured on the road for this car, and certainly don't think the owner would be impressed by how it's been treated.

He is not an interfering busybody but Tony is going have a word with the co MD on Monday.

Tis possible he will be ignored or the guy could lose his job.

What would you guys do?

I keep thinking I would be furious if it was my car.

Di

Agreed. I'd show him what's for. Many years ago (when I was but a student) and during my gap year at uni, I took a job with a computer company with a largish office in manchester. I occasionally left my car in the compny's gated, secure car park over the weekend so that I could see my girlfriend in London. One Subday, I returned to find my car in its parking bay but with a broken axle and huge dents in the body work. There were also tyre marks on the Tarmac, it transpired that the security guard had ragged my car around the car park while I was away (we were asked to leave keys with security in case a car needed to be moved). Cut a long story short, my employer fired the entire security company and were kind enough to give me a company car while mine got repaired. My motto - never let the buggers get away with any of it. We suffer too much from those elements of society that show no respect for other people honest gotten gains.

Not forgetting there is a chance that the Storeman maybe more than just that??? I know Tony probably has got it right but sometimes people arnt what they seem.

I do a lot of business with a company in Reading and for 5 years now I have been dealing with the same (Workshop Bloke)Dressed in tatty jeans, holes in his jumper, Berkshire bumkin accent etc... There are 3 suits in the office, one looks & sounds just like big AL(Alan Sugar)And up until last week I thought the Alan Sugar lookalike was the boss..... WRONG!!! The guy with the torn jeans and holes in his jumper owns the company.... Like his style!!!

The moral of the story... Never judge a sausage by its skin!!! hehe

Absolutely right to report this to the manager. Just make sure that the facts are right - as there is no Porsche GT4. (GT2,GT2RS,GT3,GT3RS,GT3RS 4.0 yes, but no GT4) - anorak off.

Mentioned this to him. He saw it from about 50 yds so must have misread rear end. He may get to see it Monday if it hasn't been crated.

Doesn't make much difference as they are a general storage warehouse and this is the only car he has seen go there in 3 years.

Whenever I have had cars in storage the mileage is recorded at drop off and collection to stop this sort of thing.

I wish all manufacturers offered 'valet' keys to limit revs to 50% of max to avoid this and garage / valet abuse. Can't be difficult with current technology.

There are plenty of examples of people who take customers cars and things didn't go swimmingly here - http://www.wreckedexotics.com/newphotos/bestof2010...

I hope, if it's found he is in the wrong, the guy who took the car gets charged with TWOC. I wonder how many others he could have done it to.

Shocking behaviour although I wouldnt be surprised if all our cars have been through something similar before we even were handed the keys. When I was working in Northern Ireland I was pretty shocked to see a load of brand new unregistered Land Rovers (Discos, RRs etc) being unloaded from the ferry. I appreciate that they had a finite amount of time to unload before the next departure but these cars were being completely ragged off the ferry and around the car park. LRs aren't the sportiest of vehicles but these things were lurching round corners and screaming around.

Made me wonder just how all of our cars have been treated prior to be delivered to the showroom.

All too common sadly. I used to live by the garages for the Grosvenor House in Mayfair and could tell what cars were being thrashed up and down Adams Row by the noise as it was so common.

Lambos, Ferraris, Porsches and Astons all being thrashed by the valet parkers. Shame frown

Depending on what era it is, Porsche's really don't like being thrashed from cold frown

I say report the guy, to stop it happening in the future if nothing else.

I used to hide a piece of 4x2 under the carpet beneath the throttle peddle on my old smokey Disco to get it through the MOT, that keeps the revs down nicely.
Valet key is a good idea and I believe that some new tractors coming in on the ferries have an ecg <sp?> setting that restricts engine and ancillary operations that the dealer cancels during the pdi. Not to much to set up on cars too I'd have thought.

It's not entirely out of the realms of possibility that the guy owned the car. It doesn't explain away his lack of respect, but there are plenty of youtube videos of people doing that sort of thing to cars they own. Some people shouldn't be allowed to go near, let alone own, a performance car.
