Maybe someone can give me some guidance here...

I have the Premium Audio system in my Vantage. There's the iPod cable, the USB socket and what I though was a standard 3.5mm stero socket to allow any device with a headphone output to be connected. Selecting AUX and pluging in a regular MP3 player via its headphone socket does indeed play the sound but it is only coming out of one channel and is very quiet. This is using a 3.5mm plug to 3.5mm plug - headphone to Vantage AUX socket if you see what I mean...

Is there a 'special' cable for this AUX socket or am I seeing a fault? It is also possible that my cable is faulty of course and I will try and replace this tomorrow.

Thanks in advance - Neil

Sounds like cable or external device or socket is broken.

You should get reasonable quality using AUX.

Thanks John.

I'm leaning towards a poor quality cable...which it is to be frank but its dificult to source a new qaulity one on a Sunday afternoon.....or the socket in the tray is faulty. I tried a couple of MP3 players with the same results so I don't think its a device issue.

Thank you - Neil

My 06 V8V has premium audio but I've never found an Aux input. Am I missing something or is this a mod to the standard premium audio?

Aux socket not fitted to 06 plate V8V. I think it came in on 07.

Does the iPod connector charge too? I'm wondering if I should plug my iPhone in every time I get in the car or buy a cheap old iPod and leave it connected permanently with a few playlists on it.

What do you chaps do?

Thats really helpful thank you and I too have ordered the dingly dangly thing...Scosche

Ideally I wanted to play my Spotify playlists. iPhone and now Blackberry (beta version) works well with Spotify's offline playlists so my plan today was to connect using my Blackberry using the AUX socket. But as my iniital post stated I think we have a fault somewhere. Then I tried an iPod and when you play Spotify through the iPod connector it generates a very annoying bleep every few seconds....so failed again.

The engine does sound great though doesn't it so not too concerned....

I've been using the USB port while waiting for a Scoshe to arrive - I had one before for another car system, but now can't find it.

I've also posted off my old 12v compatible ipod nano, as I can get a replacement under warranty apparently http://www.apple.com/support/ipodnano_replacement/

The USB port actually works really well, just dump a load of MP3/WAV files in directories into it, and you can pick random play all, or random play one directory. I've got a couple of those tiny USB sticks that barely stick out. 8GB I think, which is more than enough.

I have the Aux socket on my MY08.5 N400 BTW, so it came in sometime in 2008.
