After a complete reshuffle to my automotive stable over the last few months it appears that I've for the first time in
along time become Astonless.

So her indoors has resigned herself to the fact that the hunt may be back on yet again,as usual she has shaken her head in dismay but to be fair has been through the classifieds a time or two with me,leading to my question.

We/she likes or prefer's the older style or more classic AM,which might be nice for a change.Obviously the Vanquish
fits the bill nicely but the Virage Volante 6.3lt from the mid to later 90's keeps cropping up as an interesting
alternative, leading to my polite request for guidance as to their worthiness, good points, likely faults, running costs, things to beware etc etc...

Your wisdom is awaited with an open mind as up to yet all I've heard from those, "not in a selling position" is that they are not the best of Aston's to live with.

I've had a few pigs in my time and don't fancy another.......

The 90's Virage is from the period of "I can just afford an Aston, but not the servicing" era. No personal experience of them, but have seen the costs of last services as part of the adverts. Some are 30k+ in last 3 years!yikes and they but in the advert as if its a good thing.
Vanquish - get an S most of the problems ironed out

From what I have heard... yes.

However, if you buy this http://www.nicholasmee.co.uk/used-cars/view/518061...

Then I won't have to!

No idea what they're like, but I think they're extremely cool.

A nice example for sale here - http://pistonheads.com/sales/3199153.htm

But for pretty much the same money, I would prefer this - http://pistonheads.com/sales/2853366.htm

I love the vanquish and cars like the v600, proper mans cars, but have heard horror stories about both and expensive servicing.

If you get a vanquish, get an s, the updated dash looks so much better and then take it to desmod smail to have the gearbox sorted.

Give the guys at mcgurks a call, they have lots of experience with both, especially the vanquish and they will be able to help you out. Top guys.

Thanks so far chaps, there may be a slight wiff of bacon in the air.....

Loving the V8 EFI Volante Yeti and will be showing that to her indoors, well spotted George thats the Virage Volante
that keeps cropping up at Allaston's.

See Allaston's have a low miler DB7 my mate keeps cracking on about that looks nice and may be worth a look, anyone
dealt with these guys before?.

Paddy good shout and I'll keep the McGurk man in mind for future reference, I always keep my eye on his stocklist.

Should prove interesting when WS get up and running to see what they will have on offer in their showroom,do hope they
get Aston biased sales staff in to keep up with their reputation......they could do alot worse than to poach everybodies
favourite Simon Stanton away from Gaydon to add enthusiasm, knowledge and an instant potential clientele list.

My meandering search will continue so thanks for the input as ever,I now fancy going green and topless.

A gorgeous Pentland green (undoutably the best colour biggrin) DB9 volante for sale here - http://pistonheads.com/sales/3518968.htm

As Yeti will confirm, green and topless is by far the best way to enjoy an Aston smile

That Virage Cosmetic really is rather nice and a very attractive price; I only see that as an appreciating asset. As a teenagaer in the 90s, I am drawn to its shape more so than the V8 Volante, reminds me of Audi Quattros and other sqaured-off cars.

However I think I'd have the V8 Volante. It is somehow much more 'classically' Aston, whereas the Virage just seems like an 'old' Aston.

As to which is most reliable, fun to drive and all that stuff... you need to make some calls and do some driving!

The old school Tadek Marek V8 engined Aston Martins are challenging.

While beautiful I know a gentleman who had many. He found them to be beautiful and great when they were running. But prone to niggles and problems with electricals.

If you are happy to accept a low level of reliability versus a modern performance car and are happy to cultivate a relationship with WS or a great dealer then I am sure it will be a blast.

But remember that these cars were "evolved" rather than "designed" so are full of compromises and parts bin components. Somewhere is a website that has pictures from an Aston Martin and then a photo of a Mazda or a Volvo or whatever and you can say "bingo" - same wing mirrors or whatever.

Whatever you choose - happy hunting and photos please!

Thanks again,

George H..., I've had a peep at the DB9 Volante and it looks great, its certainly green and topless, food for thought.

Yeti...,I couldn't agree more with any of your comments, those Audi's were the dogs back in the day.

John G...,Most constructive and informative and I fully take on board what your saying,me thinks continued research a
wise option in the case of this earlier stock.

Neil....,Your just rubbing it in now,I've presented the evidence in case to the great wise domestic sage and can fully
reconfirm she thinks me totally crackers.

Still fancy that Virage Volante 6.3lt at Allastons just abit so can anyone further enlighten me to there specific woes.
Old mates pictures on his web site look great but does anyone actually know of this vehicle
