Hey again all, many thanks to everyone who helped with advice in assisting me look for a used DB9, all the words of wisdom were very useful in my previous post and in the FAQs, helped me get a good deal on the right car, well what looks like the right car.

Found a 2005 Black with cream and piano black interior. Has all the options I wanted such as the Lin stereo, is in very good condition, has the full main dealer service history, all receipts, even had the gearbox oil cooler upgrade completed. Drives perfectly has some external minor blemishes with minor scratches and a couple of chips on the wheels. Some misting in the front lights, the seller – VERY nice guy and VERY knowledgeable – Martin from Runnymeade Motor Company, will put all the cosmetic issues right, complete next service and add 12 months MOT. £40k with 36,000 miles on it.

Can be seen here http://www.runnymedemotorcompany.com/ForSale.htm

I’m just a little concerned about the fact it has had 6 owners. So thanks for all the help this far but just 2 more questions please!
• Anyone have experience of dealing Martin and Runnymeade?
• Should I be worried about the 6 owners when it has full service history and copies of all receipts?

Some people are concerned by the amount of owners, others are not - I've heard of more than 6 in 7 years.

FSH is the key - Dealer OR recognised Indy - so long as a Kwik Fit stamp ain't on the manual you should be reassured.

If Martin is able to fix the condensation in the front lights, could you perchance approach him for next week's lottery numbers ?? smile

One way to look at it is that everyone looks after their new car for the first 12 months. So, six people owning it for 12 months each should make it immaculate and pampered.

My 05MY 27k mile DB9 has had five owners before me. The first owner kept it for one year and covered 13k miles before selling it on (for a profit?) Then it sat around, changing hands and only accumulated 9k over the next four years, The well respected main dealer who now looks after my car told me it is by far the best example for it's age they have seen. I have owned the car for eighteen months and it seems to be getting better and better. Misting headlights are an "Aston" thing on DB9's and V8V's. The condensation dries up after the lights have been on for a while. Did you carry out a thorough check of the remote main door locking system? A faulty batch of (mainly passenger) door latch modules resulted in the locks not always working from the remote fob. Mine was changed under warranty, together with the gear box oil cooler system. If the cosmetics can sorted out to your satisfaction I would go for it. Gaydon cars are a lot better built than many people admit to!

Its not uncommon to find cars like this with a high number of owners... People buy them, run them for a year or so to get it out of their system and then sell it on.. And as already mentioned, each owner would have more than likley treated the car very very well...

No matter how nice or up front the seller may be always have an indipendant inspection, it may cost you a couple of hundred, but could well turn out to be the best money spent, especially if they pick up on a potential costly hidden problem, lurking around the corner...

I wish I had done so when I bought mine, would have saved a lot of time & trouble... I'd Better quickly add that I am not referring to this garage though, the one I bought from was one up North...

Other than that the car looks really nice and a good colour combo...

If your lovely dealer can fix the condensation issue then he's either
(a) a genius who has a magic touch unavailable to anyone else in Aston Martin land
(b) not really telling the truth

If it's (b) then I leave it as an exercise to consider what else may be covered by this...

Having had my V8 for 4 months im only just getting use to the paddels on the gearbox the DB9 looks the same method.
I reckon it's new owners not giving it enough time to get used to how the box works and simply move on.
I think this is the reason in my example 6 owners in 4 years and i bought it with 13k on the clock!! And now ive put a extra 2k on her.

Thanks all for the advice, looks like I will go ahead then smile I look forward to becoming a proud AM owner

As for the lights, he explained it is a reoccuring issue and will never go away, but there is sort of pipe behind the light, behind the bumper which will become blocked often and therefore not drain everything leading to condesation. he did explain he will clear but expect it back in a few months!

100% agree with this.

Ok its not an Aston, but my Tuscan has had 10 owners in 10 years. It was the best car I had seen, everything was documented.

People do tend to scratch and itch with this type of car and then move on.

Although I have not dealt with Runnymede personally I have only heard good things from friends who have bought cars from Martin.

Almost bought my DB7 from Runnymede, they're nice guys, just found a beter car elsewhere but would go back no problsm.

The owners thing... well it doesn't bother me but I lost a couple of buyers who were all set to go home in my DB7, did an HPI then pulled out due to 6 owners in 8 years. Certainly wouldn't bother me but you might limit your market at resale time. At lot of Aston types seem to have an issue, it makes no odds to me at all, buy on condition and history.

Probably due to the age of the buyers..............after all it is an old man's car, probably in retirement homes now laugh

Pretty sure the pipes mentioned are only fitted to the DB7 not DB9's, but I could be wrong. The DB7's have a pipe that pumps air in from the blowers to clear the lense - this can sometimes get blocked hence why it can be removed/cleaned.

What they usually do for Vantage cars is drill a small hole into the underside of the headlight to let air circulate naturally. I thought DB9's were the same but I could be wrong and they may engineered as per the DB7.

Either way, it is just a case of TDATS. Enjoy the DB9 when you get it!

totally differant gearbox......DB9 has a standard Autobox....and to the OP i would be alarmed by the fact its had 6 previous owners, thats not to say its a bad car, but, it could be a problem car....speak to the last owner

I have been told many times that it is quite usual for a car of this type to have a lot of owners. The sort of people who can afford to buy cars like this when new or nearly new often just scratch that itch and move on to something else because they can afford to. As has been said, buy the car purley on its own merit. If its the right spec for you, it has the all important service history and is in good condition, then its probably a good car. Also if its coming from a dealer that specialises in Astons, that is a bonus.

You need to check it's not been outed regularly because it's a lemon! My 911 had 5 owners in 5 yrs but came with a 2 yr Porsche warranty so I have full confidence in it (and with 4000+ miles added since July it has proven to be 100% fault free).
An inspection and a good warranty must be the answer here.

"Extreemly' nice according to the advert. Only 5 speeds though, I'd ask where sixth is wink

The lower front mesh grilles have been replaced with polished stainless like mine suggesting Chiltern have been at it, which is always good! Might be worth a speculative call to see if they know anything about it..?

Utterly lovely interior!

But George, you can't drive it -- it has a clutch pedal.
