Dear all,

left V8V for too long and have a very flat battery.

have found the positive terminal under bonnet, but where is earth ?

is it a case of earthing on something safe, or is there an actual bolt head etc?

also any one know if i need to reset battery, and if so where is the switch.

all could be answered if i could get the manual, but hey, it's locked in the glove box !

any help gratefully received.

thanks

The DB9 manual suggests using the alternator mounting bracket for negative earthing.

Just connect the negative side to a bit of the chassis. I use the bit about 8 inches below the positive "prong"

you shouldnt need to battery reset, but if you do on early cars its behind the drivers seat on the panel where the batter is located

Highrise Drifter,

not entirely sure the time it was, but definitely 8 weeks.

Thanks for the reply. Did you disconnect the battery or use a conditioner at all during that time?

The reason I ask is that I may need to leave my car whilst i'm abroad for a minimum of a month or so (probably longer) in a place where I can't get access to a charger.

Did not disconnect or trickle charge.

did not alarm it though, it was unlocked, which was handy as it turns out, 'cos i would have been in even more trouble if teh doors were locked.

Will get a trickle charger tomorrow.

I'd say a fortnight wuld be touch and go with the battery connected, but according to the manual, press the disconnect and the car should last 70 days - just reset and go apparently.

I'll be switching mine off everytime I leave it more than a week, had it jumped just before Christmas by Aston Assist, lucky I didn't have the Landy or I'd have done it myself and 6 error codes were thrown up and cleared by the guy. No problems, just error codes.

I keep my manual in the car nowadays, always good to refer to when the car is utterly dead smile

Mine's been left for 4-5wks a few times from new, battery connected, alarm on etc and been fine.

2-3wks is never something I worry about at the moment.

When I see the folks in La Manga I can go for up to 3 weeks.

DB9 left on the Driveway, fully alarmed, tracker on etc - absolutely no probs restarting smile

My battery perhaps isn't all it used to be then, it's had 2 Lazurus events in a year so I think it's capacity has probably dropped. 3wks I would not expect the car to start but that's based on zero evidence!

The Marcos started first time today. Last time it was driven was the Sunday of Goodwood Revival! They don;t make 'em like they used to frown

Le Yeti, the Manual does say 6 weeks for the battery life without use (10 weeks if BDS has been activated as you rightly say).

I think 3 weeks is approaching the limit with the tracker on, though I do make sure all my elecs (audio, heaters, nav etc) are closed down before locking for the final time (psychological probably).

Pretty sure a battery will lose power as it ages, though smile

Slightly off-topic but do the recent V8Vs have a BDS? There's nothing behind the flap in the boot and I didn't notice anything about it in the manual (it's a MY10.5 BTW).

@ drcarrera: I did not have a battery "reconnect" button in my car. When I press the button in the trunk, nothing happens so I'm a bit baffled. I own a V8V 2009 Roadster. If I go away for longer than 7 days I'll make sure I get someone who can start up the car for 20 min. and run a few revs.
