Any Aston Gripes?
Discussion
I own my dream car! But do I have any gripes? Bearing in mind that those boys at Gaydon are listening, what do we have. Well I think a little bit of padding on the transmission tunnel could add to driver comfort. Due to the diameter of the front discs the wheels are a bit of a sod to keep clean! Bit of an exercise keeping the lower edge of the windscreen clean as well. The door cupboard in the boot that exposes the battery life support system could fit better.
Apart from that this year we have driven 8000 magical miles in our 2 Vantages we have recieved the best customer service ever plus we have been made to feel very special by Aston
Martin.
To conclude then, No Gripes Really !!

I'd like to speak to the designer whom thought it was a good idea to stick a £10 crappy ariel on the roof
I can just imagine the meeting....
"well we've just come up with one of, if not the nicest looking cars on the road..... What do you all think??
Mmm, lovely that, smashing... Looks great...
That's it then, we'll go into production...
Apprentice at the back puts his hand up.... I love the way you've hidden the radio ariel in the screen like other manufacturers do...
Bosses all look at each other.... st..... Who forgot the ariel???
Ah well never mind, just nip down to halfords and get one of those crappy roof mounted jobs.... No one will know..

4.3L V8. Lazy throttle response.
If I were to nitpick further: steering feel could use more feel and the rack be made quicker. Body rolls a lot more than you'd expect (for a car with such stiffness).
Other than that, pretty much the perfect daily drive for a car of such prestige, looks and performance. Yep I drive it every day to work.

An engine with late 20th century technology. Look at a Honda S2000 engine for some ideas on how to make a powerful naturally aspirated engine.
And to follow, jump to the 21st century!
The 4.7 revs out close to the F20C and has the twin cam config it is lazy on the throttle but using the sport button over comes that. The fuel for cooling is its biggest issue. And to follow, jump to the 21st century!

A bit more thought on the roadster would be good
Stronger heater, better rain channels on windscreen & brighter dash with the roof down
Better cleaning and quality control in the paint shop would be noticed as well

Er - hang on...Does the 4.7 V8 have variable valve timing and lift like a Vtec unit? I think the red line on my S2000 was 8500 - what is it on a 4.7?
I know you are a bit of an S2k nut so these are genuine questions.
I always wanted Honda to bolt two S2000 engines together and make an S4000. Then work out the chassis to be able to handle the power...
Just imagine if Honda supplied the bulletproof reliable engines and AML did the design - now that would be awesome...

Love my car, but really hate the many fuel level warnings that always knock out the speedo!
Rex I'm with you - want to miles to empty, no speedo. Fuel warning, no speedo. Tyre pressure warning, no speedo. Aston really should have dual multi-function display like Porsche.Grant3 said:

Er... I don't mind pressing a single button to get back the speedo whenever that occurs... Objection to THAT would REALLY be nitpicking IMHO.2006 V8V
Poor corrosion protection on many components (around door handles, inside edges of bonnet, wheels, wheel centres, wheel pressure sensor housings, rear subframe, wiper arms, door mirror arms, door fastening hoop)
Throttle delay between pedal and butterfly valve
Baulky gearchange between 1st and 2nd when cold (even with linkage mod and thinner gearbox oil)
20mpg (near 30 is achievable at this power level)
Drainage holes in boot lid block too easily flooding boot
Still love this car though and wouldn't change it for anything else as the many positives far outweigh these negatives.

It has something similar - quad overhead cam 32 valve variable inlet camshaft timing, with max power at 7k rpm (red line on my 4.7 is 8k rpm). So needs to be reved out for max power like the S2000.Does the 4.7 V8 have variable valve timing and lift like a Vtec unit? I think the red line on my S2000 was 8500 - what is it on a 4.7?

The S2000 is way under powered for the chassis, but too much weight up front would ruin the balance Supercharger makes the difference and retains the F20C's character. BTW the F20C is not that bullet proof I know of an MY09 owner that is on their 4th engine not to mention the seizing suspension
Car & Driver in the US described the Vantage Roadster as an S4000
